I know this competition was broadcast last night, but here's a link to a Boston Globe article about Ice Wars with some interesting quotes from Brian Boitano and Scott Hamilton about skating's declining popularity. There's also some interesting quotes from Verne Lundquist and Lesley Visser. BTW, I had no idea Scott was personally involved with producing this event!

For those of you who haven't gotten around to watching your tapes yet, the article does contain spoilers on specific programs, but doesn't mention which team finally won! :)

I watched Ice Wars last night and loved it. It's funny, I realized how much I missed seeing the pro's compete. It was like a breath of fresh air agter watching Grand Pre and all the same programs over and over. It's also nice not watching a program go down the tubes because of one missed jump. I could watch Ilia K do a program without jumping and still enjoy it.(Probably coud say the same about alexe and sacha c) Too bad not more elegable skaters are going pro. Supply and demand would make for more of these types of competions. I know about the pro ams, but pros should be allowed to have more of their own without the ams. Itwas a fun show.:) :)

It was a great show. I, especially, enjoyed Boitano's "Hernando's Hideaway" routine. Kudos to him & his choreographer, David Liu. It was great to see Kulik again & to appreciate the deep edges displayed, particularly from the men. Nice to see a smile on Maria's face in the artistic program. She looked very fine!:D

I enjoyed the pros so much, and especially Boitano's skate because this is different for him, and he really nailed it.

As to the marks, however, I still don't get how a 3 axel, 3 flip/3 toe loop and a lutz doesn't beat a 3 lutz, 3/3 toe loop when the two skaters are both presentation power houses.

Oh well. I enjoyed it a lot anyway. I was glad to see Hamilton's Figaro...its my favorite program of his ever.
