ALthough I pride myself on being up on this stuff, my brain has gone away temporarily....

First, when do they pick the original 14 judges for worlds? A week ahead or what? When will we the public know who the original 14 are from whom the secret 9 will be selected.....

We will have an interesting clue as to who is likely to win depending on if there is a large number of countries in the original 14 who are from one area.....

Second, am I correct in assuming the following?:

1.the judges for the two qualification rounds for ladies and men are each a different panel and no one from one panel can be on the other? Or is it the same panel for both and then a new panel for the rest of the competition?
2.the judges for the short and long are the same panel and CAN include some judges from the qualification panel but not all?

I am talking about the original 14 people.

How will they know if they have a different panel for the short and long from the qualification if it is all secret!!!!!!!!!!!

I am confused.

In the past (I'm not aware that this will change with the larger panels/random selection system), there were two completely different panels for qual groups A and B. Since part of the point of holding qual rounds in the first place was to avoid judging fatigue having to sit and judge 40 or so short programs in a row, judging that many long programs with only a short break between teh two groups would be even worse. It is possible for the same judge to serve on a qual round panel for the men on Monday and one for th eladies on Wednesday, though, if that's what you were asking.

2.the judges for the short and long are the same panel and CAN include some judges from the qualification panel but not all?

That has been the case in the past, and again I don't know that it's likely to change, other than that, with the larger panels before the secret selection of which ones count, it's likely that every country that sends a judge will end up having that judge sitting on at least one panel -- who knows which ones actually count, though.

And I *think* but I'm not sure that although the same 14 judges will judge the short and long programs, there may be different subsets of 9 selected to count for each program.
