I was just wondering... have pairs done throw jump combinations in the past? As in, throw double axel followed by double toe, for example. Actually, it seems like there are a lot of possibilities (technical envelope pushing) in pairs skating which have yet to be realized... basically, pair skaters have the freedom to do everything the singles skaters do... plus, they get to do innovative pairs moves as well. So why not push the envelope a little technically?

One of the novice teams that trained at my rink (this was over 8 years ago) used to do them. They'd do a throw 2Salchow/2 toe combination. For him, after he'd throw her he'd turn so he was in position to pick just as she landed and they'd tap into the 2 toe loops in synch. It was actually pretty cool! I think it'd be quite interesting to see some of the elite teams try this.

That sounds really cool, spinner. One of the novice pairs at Easterns, Vlassov/Meekins, had a throw 2 jump which she did in combination with a 2loop. That was really cool looking, I am not sure if it really garners any extra tech merit for them, but there are all kinds of cool things that pairs can do, and it's fun to see the novice and junior pairs doing things that are out of the ordinary!

I have seen pairs do combinations like that before - cannot remember who though. Maybe it was someone like Selezneva/Makarov back in the 80s.

I know that Eltsova/Buskov used to do a throw jump and then do double axels immediately (I think she just stepped forward on the landing of the throw and do the double axel).

Yes I think it was Selzneya and Makarov. She would go into a 3toe immediately after landing the throw 2axel.
