I can't actually get into the NISA website, the front page comes up but there's nothing to press to enter the site and the bar at the bottom always says one item still remaining. It seems like other people can see the site, any ideas what's wrong?

The problem with the NISA web site is that they use Java - and many people have that technique deactivated in their browser - like me. If someone who is able to enter the site could list the names here? Or perhaps you have a direct link to the listing?

If she did, she didn't stay long.....Tamsin was 4th last year.
She'll be looking for a medal place.
So will Jenna and V Hodges.
Claire Smith looks very beautiful on the ice. I hope her 2axel and 3jumps are lovely on the day. :D
Zoe Jones hasn't been competing (at least not in the qualifiers for British championships) this year.
Who's going to take the Senior Ladies medal???
This is a complete guess, because I don't know if the judges would "allow" a new senior to win it.
1st Jenna McCorkell
2nd Vikki Hodges
3rd Danielle Guppy
4th Claire Smith/Tamsin Sear

Mel - what about Jennifer Holmes? You skate at her rink don't you? How's she skating? Just wondered, because she was silver medallist in 00 or 01 (?), and you don't have her listed in your guess for the top 4.
Jim D - thanks!! I can never get into the NISA site either, so I'm glad you posted the entries. Some of them skate at my rink! :) Now lets hope the BBC show some coverage (unlikely).

Jennifer is still around and skating, (I hardly ever see her at the times I skate - though we share the same coach), but not doing so great in her comps this year up till now. That's the reason I don't have her in the top 5 - as a few of these ladies have placed above her this year.
Claire & Pauline Smith are skating here too. Claire may not have the technical ability (jumps) consistent, but she is sograceful and beautiful on the ice. Her spins are nice too.

Well I'm going Mel, but you already know that! (incidentally, I checked our tickets and I think we're sitting just about beside each other!!!). I haven't seen Jennifer skate for ages, how's she skating lately? I totally agree with you about Claire though, she is fantastic to watch, beautiful extension, lovely Biellman, just a really nice style to watch. I hope she does well at Nationals.

Thanks for posting this list and the interesting info, everyone! Does anyone have info on Matthew Davies or Alan Street? Are they just taking the year off, or are they injured, or have quit?
Tony Wheeler
11-24-2002, 09:15 PM
Alan Street was injured I believe after the 2001 season and decided to retire because he couldn't get healthy, if I remember right.
As far as I know, Matt Davies is still skating. I think he goes to Mariposa each summer..
For senior ladies, I think (and hope!) Jenna McCorkell will win the gold. She's had a solid fall and I really think she could be a real surprise in Europeans and Senior Worlds, granted that she goes. :)

I really don't have much knowledge on the skaters competing here, but can someone who does have more knowledge make a guess on who will win the senior men's competition? I remember watching Neil Wilson in Vancouver and he had some really great spins and looked at that point to be getting close on the triple axel. Does he appear to be the front runner?

Matthew Wilkinson is pretty close to 3axel. I'm sure there are others.
I might put my money on James Black for gold.
Hoping to see Mark Hanretty (Junior men) get a nice coloured medal, and also Sinead & John Kerr (Senior dance), Pauline Smith (junior ladies) Claire Smith (senior ladies).
I'm also sure Jenna McCorkell (if she skates well) will collect the gold at Senior level.

Jennifer Holmes isn't competing.

Vikki Hodges was second last year - let's hope she can go one better this year! (Streatham claims her as its own as she often comes back to one of the coaches there when she needs a morale boost).
For senior dancers, apart from Marika and Vitaly, everybody else is pretty evenly matched, and anything could happen. Me, I'm hoping Phillipa and Robert do better than last year's 4th place (they would be happy to finish 4th, Phillipa said, and anything else would be gravy!). In the junior dance, Candi T-G and James Phillipson should retain their title, and set themselves a good foundation for going up to Seniors next season.
I don't know any of the other candidates, so I'm not risking any predictions there.....

Isn't the NISA site c***? 8O
Is it clear if Neil Wislon is eligible to compete? As he hasn't fulfilled the qualifying criteria has he?
Also, icenut re Jennifer Holmes - she's no longer skating competitively at the highest level, as due to college and work committments, she hasn't the time.
I hope Marika and Vitaliy can compete, and Vitaliy's injured knee will have healed in time for the start of the Senior Dance on Friday.
GOOD LUCK ALL!!!!!!:D
Ooh, and Annie D - have a great time! Don't forget the reports please!!:D

La Rhumba -
I am not sure if you are aware or not but Neil has been training in Canada since Worlds 2001. He came to Vancouver for Worlds and just never went home LOL !! Seriously though he is a wonderful guy to have around the rink.
Anyway, Neil takes from Joanne McLeod (Emanuel Sandhu's coach) and Jill-Marie Harvey. It is Jill-Marie that is making the trip with him to British Nationals.

La Rhumba- ok thanks for trying
If anyone can remember any of the results for Primary men, Junior Dance and Junior men those are the ones I am particularly interested in.
The NISA website wasn't that great before but there was occasionally something useful on it, now I can't see it at all, and I can't get in to send an e-mail complaining either.
I have to agree the NISA site has gone from worse to worse. In fact some of the information on it now is not even as uptodate as the information that was there before they amended it.
However, to look at the results without getting going through the NISA site try this link:-

It is dreadful - but one gets in by using the navigation bar along the top, which is almost invisible unless you know to look for it! Mind you, it's not all that worth getting into.... Janet - Thanks for the up to date info on Neil Wilson. :D
I knew he had gone to Canada, but I thought he was training with his former coach, who also went to Canada, Kevin Bursey [who was in the Keyla Ohs and Brit Ice Girls documentary, you may've seen].
Max - Thanks so much for the direct link, which I've bookmarked. :D
Twinkle - I sent two emails to NISA recently, asking for specific info, and didn't even get a reply.
On a par with them are the dreaded BBC, who aren't even covering the Championships, so we won't get to see Neil or any of the skaters on TV.
Does anyone know if Marika and Vitaliy are able to compete after Vitaliy's injury at the NHK? :?: I hope so. :)

La Rhumba-
I see Kevin around from time to time at various competitions. I know he is coaching somewhere in the Vancouver area, I just can't think of which club at the moment. But he doesn't currently coach at the Center of Excellence at all, which is where Neil is training, and where Keyla used to train, and where he brought UK skaters in the summers (and also where part of ice girls was shot !!).

Kevin now coaches out of the Connaught SC in the lower mainland, he has a skater competing at the Western Challenge named Calvin Lefebvre, in Pre-Novice Men.
It is dreadful - but one gets in by using the navigation bar along the top, which is almost invisible unless you know to look for it!
Unfortunately due to the way it has been designed, the navigation bar only shows if you have downloaded macromedia onto your PC otherwise you just get the front page with no navigation bar.
At some point, someone will realise in NISA that the most important thing about a governing body website is not pretty design but content, content, content and a website that is accessible to all however old or slow your machine is.
Well done to Kerrie Brown from Sheffield who took Silver in the Junior Ladies.
Good Luck to David Hartley also from Sheffield who skates today in the Senior Men.

I had a chat with Wilson at Finlandia Trophy in October. He said he had to compete at one international competition in order to be able to go to Nationals. Finlandia didn't quite fit well into his training schedule but I guess that was his only choice so he had to go. I can't remember exactly what he said but it went something like this.
It would be great to see Wilson on Eurosport again, but the other British men at Europeans recently during Wilson's absence have been quite interesting to watch too!

People are saying he didn't fulfill qualifying criteria, like you say. Interestingly, there's not a club/rink attached to his name on the results page. Well worth seeing the 3axel though! ;)
I hope Marika and Vitaliy can compete, and Vitaliy's injured knee will have healed in time for the start of the Senior Dance on Friday.
Apparently/allegedly, Vitaliy is undergoing knee surgery in 2 weeks so won't be fit for Europeans.

Cheers for all the news Mel! :D
But am very sad for Marika and Vitaliy.
If fit, I hope they'll still be sent to Worlds.
Also am slightly surprised that the Kerrs didn't overtake in the FD - they seem to be preferred by the international judges this season, and beat Pam and Jon at the Golden Spin. :?:
Many Congrats to young Stephanie Smith and James Monte on their Junior Pairs Gold! :D Let's hope the talent that is there comes to fruition in the years ahead - we certainly need it in the Pairs.
Well Done to Claire Smith for pulling up to 6th in the Senior Ladies [5th in the Free] with the Centrum Rink palava to contend with.
YAY!!!!! For Neil Wilson!! We LOVE your spins and artistry Neil - LOL at his comments to Ritti at Finlandia - we're dying to see you on Eurosport again Neil!!!!!!:D
Thanks to the Canadian Fans for the updates on Kevin Bursey - Good Luck to him in the future. :D
Here's an excerpt from yesterday's Times - which appears to be the only newspaper covering the event 8O
From Angela Court, after Neil's SP for his Canadian friends and supporters. :D
"A much-improved Neil Wilson leads in the men’s event having performed a well-choreographed short programme that included a strong triple axel. The 24-year-old faulted the landing of the triple flip jump and had to struggle to combine it with the double toe loop, but the rest of his performance was skated with strength, plus a newfound confidence that looks to have come from transferring his training base to Canada.
“It wasn’t perfect, but I’m happy with my overall performance,” Wilson said. “I rushed the take-off on the triple flip but I felt good out there and I’m looking forward to the rest of the competition.”

Yes. Do the British judges ever see eye to eye with the International ones though? In saying that, it was a 4 - 3 split, so it was close.
Personally, I thought the Kerrs did have a stronger Free dance, (as did half the stadium who gave them a standing ovation for it) but what do I/we know?
Yes the Kerrs beat O'C & O'D in the Free at Zagreb. The Kerrs had a move up (unusual in dance??) from 8th in CDs, 8th in OD then 5th for their Free, beating O'C & O'D by a place in the free.
This was the only result (2nd) that I was confused with.....:?:
They got some 5.5s for their timing and expression. :)
They'll get more international competitions and will shine there - and prove themselves to the British judges.
Many Congrats to young Stephanie Smith and James Monte on their Junior Pairs Gold! :D Let's hope the talent that is there comes to fruition in the years ahead - we certainly need it in the Pairs.
Yes, they show great promise. We can live in hope for their progression and success in pairs.
Well Done to Claire Smith for pulling up to 6th in the Senior Ladies [5th in the Free] with the Centrum Rink palava to contend with.
Claire made a great come back in the FP. She is probably one of the most elegant young ladies on the ice - absolutely beautiful to watch. Her spins and basic skating are very strong.
The judges recognised her artistry and gave her 4.4s when her technical was as low as 1.9 in the SP! 8O
YAY!!!!! For Neil Wilson!! We LOVE your spins and artistry Neil -
Great to see a good jumper as well as a great spinner. Spins were fast with challenging positions.

So happy to hear that Neil's jumps have improved since he last competed internationally - the move to Canada was worth it. :D

AnnieD has ALL the marks, La Rhumba.
We were gutted as we realised one judge made the difference. This also happened to them in 2000, when they won silver - a spilt.
So annoying about the lack of marks / information on the Internet.
Did I mention that Jenna McCorkell has (reportedly) landed 3axel - all the way round - in recent months?
Well we did see her try them in practise before her competition.
It looked to be all the way round but her free foot was getting stuck on the landing (it was still in jumping/backspin position), and down she went. She also managed to land on one foot, but it looked a bit short. Very impressive attempts though. :P

:D Fantastic News about Jenna! Thanks Mel! :D
Why isn't she being considered for the BBC Young Sports Personality Award on the TV tonight? They have included a Gymnast, A Shooter [!] and Wayne Rooney, the Everton Footballer - why not Jenna, when she's won a Junior GP Medal this season? That's how high the Skating profile is in the UK!
She sounds a very determined girl, as is clear in her interview with Angela Court after the SP - here's an extract from The Times.

McCorkell establishes lead despite fall on triple lutz
By Angela Court
JENNA McCORKELL outskated the opposition to take an early lead in the women’s competition on the opening day of the British Figure Skating Championships with an encouraging, if not perfect, short programme.
The 16-year-old, who trains in Coventry, fell on her opening triple lutz jump, which she had planned to combine with a double toe loop, but recovered well to complete a solid solo triple loop jump plus a double axel.
Despite the fall, McCorkell was clearly superior to the rest of the field and received first-place votes from all seven judges. “I hesitated on the lutz, which caused me to fall, but that made me fight harder for the rest of the programme,” McCorkell said later.
“Once I was back on my feet I told myself; ‘OK you let that one go, but you’re not going to let the other jumps go too.’ I was determined to fight.” Kathryn Hedley, from Dundee, and Danielle Guppy, from Blackburn, are second and third respectively heading into this afternoon’s free-skating section.
__________________________________________________ ____
That's what we need, but I hope she's not pushed too far too soon, as Jenna expressed a wish to go to Junior Worlds next March, which I hope she will be allowed to do, and join the full Senior scene next season.

McCorkell is aiming to put Britain back in the loop
By Sarah Potter - [Dennis, the Playwright's daughter!]
“I’d like to do the junior worlds in the Czech Republic next March,” she said. “But I’m competing in these championships as a senior for the first time, so I’ll see what happens. All rinks are different but a lot of figure skating is in the head. When people fall in competitions it’s because of the pressure. Everyone can do the stuff, it’s who can stay calm on the day. I just want to go out and skate my best and hopefully that’ll be good enough.”
