Like over in Japan, or Russia where they have completely different writing systems, are the medals won there in English?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I think that some Olympic medals are written in the language of the host country, such as the 1980 Olympic medal from Moscow.
It'd be interesting to see all the different medals given at the Grand Prix competitions. We hardly ever get a good enough look on television! I know the Skate America ones are a rectangular shape, and the Skate Canada ones are mostly glass/crystal (boy, I'd feel gipped, LOL!).
And while we're on the topic if medals, are the ones given at Europeans/4CC the same as the ones at Worlds? Those things are tiny! And what about the medals from the GPF--do they change every year?

Well, I think the official languages of the ISU (as well as for the IOC) are English and French, so perhaps the medals are written in both those languages. Of course, the medals for the individual GP events might be written in the language(s) of the host country, since those events are run by the individual federations.
I would guess that the medals for all the major int'l comps (Worlds, Euros, 4CC, GPF) are the same size, since they would all be made/produced by the ISU.

I can tell you that the men's gold
medals from the last 5 World Championships are latin on one side, and then
Engish on the other.
It will say the city the championship was held in, for example Helsinki, in the english language and also say world chamionship in english.
The other side has something like leaves -maybe acanthus leaves from the roman era or something - and then I believe a phrase or words in latin.
Hope that helps. And they look like solid gold as they scratch easily.
