hmmm...Speedy appears to have convinced Rogge that his new judging system is the answer:

I think the new system will just be a confusing mess.

Maybe Cinquanta wants a confusing mess - easier to cover stuff up ;)

First all, I am an FSWorld escapee and am happy to be here. About this topic? Dr. Rogge does NOT want a repeat of the shennanigans in Salt Lake! Neither do we. Although I have been elsewhere and said this many times, there is NO way that this situation is going to get cleaned up until ethical standards for officials are enacted AND enforced...including severe penalties for official misconduct. Every one of us who posts here knows that. The fact that this issue is being deliberately skirted by the powers-that be makes my blood boil! :x
Although the article did not say this directly, I am quite sure that Dr. Rogge and Dick Pound of the IOC expect the ISU to satisfactorily clean up this mess and are giving them a chance to do so at their upcoming Congress. Should the ISU fail to accomplish what is necessary, the IOC has its 114th Session in Mexico City at the end of November, and no doubt the IOC will enact and enforce measures to get this mess cleaned up. Dr. Rogge is just keeping a low profile right now...letting Speedy think what he wants to and the boom will get lowered once the Congress is over if nothing significant and productive has been produced.

Rogge should stop interferring in ISU business. He utterly failed in SLC pressuring the so-called controversy be swept out of sight and out of mind by hastily awarding two gold medals without a proper investigation. Now he is pressuring ISU members to endorse the new proposals? This man has no credibility. There's another reason and force behind the changes, just we aren't being told about it. The system is not broken, so why fix it. As dick says, its the people involved who ultimately make any system reliable or not.

Bruin4life, it is quite clear that the ISU has no intention of dealing with the [b:f561374e3f]real [/b:f561374e3f]issue here... ; they want and like the status quo and we all know that. The problem is now the powers-that-be in the ISU have made a laughingstock of the sport, the IOC and all the commercial sponsors, thus leaving the IOC with absolutely no choice but to put its foot down and do for the sport what the ISU appears to be refusing to do. Right now the IOC seems to be biding its time and giving the ISU a chance to do the right thing at its upcoming Congress; but somehow I do not believe the ISU will get the job done to the standard needed.
One of the proposals that the USFSA is putting forth is a life-time ban on officials who engage in official misconduct. Skate Canada is supporting that measure and even goes further...they are also proposing that federation presidents are ineligible to sit on the ISU council or any ISU committe; nor are they eligible to judge/officiate any international competitions while sitting as president of their federation. IMHO, this measure should also be extended to include the spouses of federation presidents. These proposals are the best news yet, and passage of these measures would do a lot to help solve the problem, not to mention make most of us very happy. :D
 We can all help by letting our federations know that these measures need everyone's support, not to mention expressing that sentiment to the commercial sponsors, the ISU (so they cannot claim they do not know how people feel), and most importantly, Dr. Rogge and Dick Pound of the IOC. Before any of you "thumb your noses" at this suggestion, just remember that David felled Goliath with that one well-aimed pebble. If the mailboxes and fax machines (not everyone has e-mail, but snail-mail and the fax will get the job done) of the right people are flooded with our views along with positive and effective solutions to this problem, we will stand a chance of practically eradicating this horrible scourge. Think on that one. 8)
