Thanks for the article, Adrian! I read it on the Sarah Forum!
Emily's going to be in COI (At least in some cities, anyway)!

Thanks for the link, Adrian. It was fun to read. I can't wait to see her skate. She looks like a cutie.

Cute article. What competitions has she won to date? I've never seen her skate, but she must be an accomplished skater to be scheduled for COI already.
Wouldn't it be something if she does win the olympics in '06? ;)

The Hughes sound like an amazing family. I guess they really luck out when God was passing out gifted genes :)

Oh, that was probably a joke. Emily is a promising junior level skater at this point, but nothing more. Last season she was third at regionals, fourth at Eastern sectionals, and eleventh (last) at nationals. So far this year she's won North Atlantics and she just finished second at Easterns, so she's probably headed for a stronger national showing this year.

They, the Hughes, do seem like a rather extraordinary family with a mass appeal "story of sorts;" and of which I'm sure is primarily (no dismissal of her likely talents) the major reason for Emily's offer from the COI Tour.

Well, I guess we'll never really know whether Collins meant it seriously or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did get something along those lines at some point.

The article, which was google/posted here yesterday was in today's (Saturday) NY Times.

Interestingly, all the references to Tom Collins were edited out.

well, i hope emily, as a skater, doesnt slouch and cheat her jumps like sarah. (CMc, you know i'm only joking! i just thought i say this before someone else does. :) ).

hmmm, are we seeing a possible Williams sister-like situation in figure skating? it would be very interesting if, one day, the Hughes sisters are 1-&-2 in figure skating!

Emily's jumps are huge and not cheated - including the lutz. She doesn't seem to have a 3-loop yet though.

at 5'6" (well, that was the last i've heard. she may be taller now), sarah is very tall for a female skater. tallness seems to run in the family. how tall is emily? does anyone know?

Duane - Sarah is 5'5" (according to her bio). Still tall for a skater. Her sister (in photos) looks mush shorter. Sarah is taller than her mother, so perhaps Emily takes after her Mom.

But Sarah and Emily both resemble their father. Taylor, the youngest of the sisters, looks more like their mom.
Thank you Duane for thinking of me right after your comment!

The printed version of the Times article includes a photo of Emily and Mrs. Hughes embracing. My guess is that Emily is a couple of inches taller than her mother.

It's up to the rest of you to find out how tall Mrs. Hughes is!:D

I've seen her up close, rack! ;) She was kind of tiny, so I'm sure she's shorter than Emily.
I think Taylor's the only one that doesn't exceed Mrs. Hughes' height.

Hey Chittah about waht you said

"They, the Hughes, do seem like a rather extraordinary family with a mass appeal "story of sorts;" and of which I'm sure is primarily (no dismissal of her likely talents) the major reason for Emily's offer from the COI Tour."

I am not saying I agree because I have never seen her skate but I recently attended sk8 in Canada and Elisabeth Manley's niece Emily Manley who is a pre-Novice or in US intermeidiate competitor was in the show !!!
