I often wonder if skaters actually feel a sense of relief for not making the Grand Prix Final these days. It seems like many fans are disappointed that their favorite skaters don't make it to the GPF, and the commentators make it seem like a skater has failed if they don't qualify.
Sure, there's the prestige of being one of the top 6 skaters/teams in the series, as well as the prize money, but isn't it quite difficult both physically and mentally to be practicing two different long programs/dances? If I were a skater, I wouldn't want to go through all that trouble for just one competition. And besides, wouldn't it be better to get some rest before Worlds instead of competing in another competition?
What are all of your thoughts on this? I wonder if the ISU will ever change the GPF to a normal format again...
