Great showing for Ye Bin! Hope she can hang on for a medal. :)
Nice job for Spielberg & Joeright and Goodwin & Obzansky as well.

Yebin is awesome!! The USFSA definitely sent the right lady to this event. This shows how deep the US ladies field is, and if she can medal here, it also shows that Yebin is more than ready for senior events! Good luck in the free to her!
What the heck is going on with Diana Poth? She keeps withdrawing (or being withdrawn) from her events. Disappointing result for Daria Timoshenko so far. The country-switching curse appears to be on her as much as it has been on Soldatova. Also a poor result from Lukianenko of Ukraine. The scores outside of the top 4 were quite weak. It should be interesting to see what happens in the free program.
SO psyched for G/O's high placement and good scores. I hope they have improved their FD since Lake Placid-- if they hold their position then they'll have a positive impression heading into Nationals.
I am thrilled that Spielberg/Joeright won this event and moreso that they posted solid scores of 5.0 and over for the SP and FS. I really want to see this team succeed this year, they're such a wonderful pair and they've been together longer than most of the U.S. pairs. Go Larisa and Craig! :)

I noticed Daria Timoshenko is now skating for Azerbaijan (sp?). How long has she been skating for her new country? I'm assuming this is the same Daria who won the World Junior title in 1999 for Russia?

Timoshenko made the switch after the 2000 season IIRC, which means she's now been sitting out for two seasons (or did I forget something in 2001?). For some reason I think I remember hearing that her husband is a citizen of Azerbaijan, so that's part of the reason behind her switch--but I may be remembering wrong. At any rate, she now trains in Massachusetts. This isn't a great result for her, but it's worth remembering that she's had a lot of injuries over the last few years, and I believe finances have been an issue as well. It sounds like she had a pretty good performance at the Liberty Open (a U.S. summer club competition) this year, so I wouldn't write her off entirely.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! WHERE IS DIANA POTH!?!?! I have been waiting for nearly two years for her come back but she keeps withdrawing. There is still the chance that she is injured but still!?!?! Apparently does no one have updates on her? I wonder if she still trains in the US?
Holy Moly!! Way to go Kendra and Chris!! That is a huge acomplishment in thier first senior international!! I'm so happy for them!
But where are Christie and Sasha? I thought they were going to be competing here as well... I know that Sasha had some paperwork trouble for the last comp, I thought they'd have that straightened out by now! bummer for them.
And what happened to poor Scott Smith? I hope he can pull together a stellar long program. I think he is one of the most under-rated guys out there. He has great jumps, great lines, and is jsut so pleasant to watch. I hope this year can be a big one for him at Nationals!

It's good to see Kristoffer Berntsson in the top 3 after the short program. I wonder what was up with the Australian judge giving him a 12th place ordinal. 8O I would have loved to have seen her face when Kris ended up in the top 3, yet she had him in the lower half.
Very happy for Goodwin & Obzansky! :)

Anyone know what happened to Putnam and Wirtz - they were listed as being the Canada Pairs entry in this event on the Canadian International Assignments page. Are they still together? Are one of them injured?

The updated blurb on the USFSA News home page at
http://www.usfsa.org/news/news.htm
reports that Yebin Mok won the silver, Ben Miller the bronze and Scott Smith placed 4th. And judging by the flags in the background of the Mok/Bevan photo, Finland's Alisa Drei most likely won the gold and Hungary's Julia Sebestyen the bronze.
There's a men's podium shot at

Can someone confirm that Romania's Georghe Chiper (gold) is the man in the middle? Russia's Alexei Vasilevsky has been identified as the silver medalist on the left.

when not even a week ago in milan she literally did nothing in either her short or long program. i wonder if that shows a good competitor (for being able to fight back) or for being an inconsistent skater?
Aussie Willy

BCskater - I think Zhang is an inconsistent skater - one event she will not even qualify like the Olympics, and then she comes 2nd in the SP at Junior worlds but then is 7th overall. But then she had a great performance at the GWG last year. However she has been chopping and changing coaches over the last couple of years. I am not sure who she is currently with now.

Does anyone know the placements?

The dance event finished up well over 24hours ago, yet the results still aren't up. In this day of technology, both the official web site and the USFSA web site have nothing. The AP put out a couple of photos of Goodwin & Obzansky yesterday during their free skate, but unfortunately didn't tell their placements in the caption of the photo. I'm a bit frustrated at the moment with how slow things have been with the Golden Spin competition.

I agree.
All I know is, apparently Kerrs (GBR) ended up 6th from 8th place.

Kerr and Kerr must've skated well in the FD to come 5th?
They moved up two places from 8th to 6th. :)
