"I am very optimistic and my long term goals still remain the same," says Yagudin. "The doctors explained to me that for every problem there is a solution. We found the problem and we know how to treat it. This season I will have to modify my training and competitive schedules and also make some changes in my programs. I know that the treatment and healing may take some time, but in the long run the prospect is good."

Good to hear, but just to note, that's not an article but a press release from Yagudin.

Wow! :)
I'm so happy to hear this wonderful news!
It made my day.
I feel very optimistic for Alexei. I hope he can continue his illustrious career for as long as he wants.
I have a question. I know, however, that at this point, it is impossible to answer...
What about those other doctors' diagnosis--that Alexei was born with a hip socket that does not cover the bone?
Was this diagnosis wrong?
I hope so!
I'm very happy for Alexei. :)

That's was the diagnosis from a doctor in Spokane and that's probably a problem for him in life but his immediate problem - severe pain in his hip - is caused by inflammation from fluid buildup in the joint (that's why it's always good to have several doctors' opinions.:D )
I sincerely hope that he'll forget about 2003 Worlds, just concentrate on SOI and try to get through the season and be competitive again next season.

I would be very surprised if we ever see Alexei in "amateur" competition again. I don't think his hip will ever allow the training necessary for programs containing 2 or 3 quads and 7 triples.
We will see.

Hey, guys. Did you check out who the source of the article was? It was Alexie himself. Cool. Now he's a sports journalist too.
From the moment I heard that Yagudin has had an underdeveloped hip since birth, I had doubts about the diagnosis. My older daughter was diagnosed with that at birth. We sought a second opinion and found that by even a few days after birth, the diagnosis could not be determined without x-rays, which would not be accurate until she was older. She was treated with a splint which forced her legs apart, causing the hip sockets to deepen. We did this as a precaution, since we could not be sure she had the problem. Now, the reason I am doubtful of Yagudin's diagnosis is that we were told that this problem, if left uncorrected, would result in a wobbly gait and possible hip dislocations when our daughter started walking. If Yagudin has an underdeveloped hip, how has he managed to skate so magnificently all these years? My bet is that he's OK in that department.
