Just wondering if there are some new posters from FSW here. FSW has started to charge for their forum. It is something like 69.00 for a years membership. Let's hope we can draw some new people, but none of the trolls! If you are new, please introduce yourself!

I was on the private forum but, to be honest, didn't go there much .... old habits and all that!

There is also a thread to identify those of us from FSW at http://www.acforums.homeip.net/viewtopic.php?t=357

It's good to be here :)

What in the world happened over there? Pretty weird that there was no lead in, and no transition.

I already had a one year subscription, so that is not an issue. NO ONE is posting there.

The one thing I do hope for is that it cleans up some of the insanity! That could be a pretty scarey place!

After years of lurking at FSW I registered two weeks ago and was finally cleared for posting a couple days before the mandatory fee was announced. I never even got around to posting. There was a link for this forum at MKF, so I thought I'd check it out.

I transferred over from FSW where I posted as Oksana For Gold.

I looked at the membership page here yesterday and since the 25th, this place has gotten around 300 new members. A lot of people are coming on over.

I had the same username at FSW.

Hi Summertime,

Your handle sounds familiar. Were you at the iskater 2001 worlds dinner at The Keg in Vancouver? My old name at FSWorld was "nick unplugged".

Our skating season starts in a few weeks, so I am really looking forward to it.

Take care.

Hi to all, it's me, Bonnie. I'm mostly interested in posting on the off topic board. Hope to see you there.

I'm new to this board. I'm using the same name as I did at FSW. Like everyone else, I was shocked at their method of informing us of their new policy and wrote them an email to tell them how I felt about it. I had thought about signing up for one month just to see how many folks were accepting the subscription and who was posting, but I haven't done that yet. I heard that it's VERY quiet there.

I had also joined FSUniverse back in March of this year and am probably going to make that my "home". I joined this board today because I had read that the owner was the person that originally started FSW, so I will probably be a regular lurker/poster here as well :D .

I'm also a transplanted FSWer. I joined that board when Adrian was still running it so I thought I'd check out this board. I've also registered at FSU and will decide next season where I'll post once I get to know the boards a little better. Great to see some familiar names though!

Hi Nick / essence_of_soy :)

Yes, I was at The Keg in Vancouver !

And I do remember your old handle at FSW :)

Vancouver worlds was so much fun - worth every penny.

Are you planning to attend any events during your new season ?

I'm thinking of checking out local competitions over the summer - I'll see how that goes.

Take care and talk to you later :)

I found it weird that they started charging... and obviously my parents wouldn't let me join and i don't think i'd pay for it anyway! Its a good thing that we have this board though! :)

Hi!
I'm a defector also. I hope this board will be informative and friendly! I didn't post very often at FSW but relied on them for new skating information. I did get a little tired of the squabbling that would often happen! I have the same name here. I'm also a frequent visitor at the Michelle Kwan Forum.

Count me in. I lurked more than posted on FSW. I very disappointed in the way that they handled the transition. I can understand their arguement about money, but $47.00 US is too much for me. I am rather curious to see how many people they keep. :D

I too joined FSW when Adrian ran it and had looked at this board. With the arrival of the fees (I'm in Canada, so the cost was basically double), I will be a frequent visitor to this site. At FSW, I was ss and posted mostly about Canadian skaters.

I am also a former FSWer, from way back (1997). I posted as SuzanneK, but I did little more than lurk in the past year because the board began to change--there was a lot more pointless argument, needless invective, and sophomoric posturing. I tend to lurk, anyway--if I can't say anything new, I won't say anything at all.

I am a newbie from the FSW board. There is no way I'm paying 69.00 to read the posts on there.

I will now introduce myself (lol) 8)

My name is Shawna. I am 27 years old. I work with adults with developmental disbilities and I love my job (and no I am not a patient person, lol). I am a VERY HUGE Elvis fan! And I fully admit that I am not a big skating fan, I do not know my ins and outs of what jumps are what other than what the commentators tell me. I enjoy watching some of the other skaters (especially the Canadian ones, gotta root for my country) but admittedly I do not go out of my way to watch them unless they are on the same TV show or competition as Elvis.

There! That's it! That's all! I look forward to chatting with all of you on the board.

hi everybody!

It does feel very welcoming seeing so many familiar names. In truth, I had just joined FSW at the beginning of the year mainly as a whim. I found myself really falling in love with figure skating again and wanted to hear what other people were saying about my beloved sport. FSW just happened to be the first site listed on the search engine. Needless to say, i quickly became hooked, not only because of the useful news and information, but the great debates. I have learned a lot from differing opinions and I hope to find another home that will both entertain and enlighten me.

Thanks for the board :D

Hi all!

I am an old timer from FSW..was there since 97. I really lurked alot and will probably do the same here...but you will see my name pop up every once in awhile... :D

My old handle was maryjo14 I had just changed to the new one a few months back...

There is no way I was going to pay for FSW...I am unemployed!

See ya round!

Detroiter here, another escapee from FSW, which I had joined when Adrian had it, but I mostly lurked and rarely posted there, especially after Iskater's takeover. I was also shocked at the lack of prior notice of the new policy there, and I'm hoping the event results info that was so valuable on FSW will transfer to this forum.

Hmm. I just wrote a message introducing myself, and then got sent back to the log-in screen when I sent it. I logged in three times before I could get back here, and of course my message never showed up. Oh well, maybe I'll re-write the whole thing Thursday or possibly this weekend. Anyway, hello to all other FSW refugees. I posted there under the same name. Hope nobody else is having these problems!

Hello all! Another FSWorld "refugee" here - I had lurked there almost daily for a couple of years, but never posted. I had recently registered to reply to one of Patsy's questions (loved the COT), but was subject to a "waiting period" before I was deemed worthy of posting. Glad to see some familiar names here!

To introduce myself, I'm a long time skating fan (first really remember Dorothy Hamill at the 1972 Olys), but not a skater, so I can't give dissect technique, but I can recognize and appreciate a quality skate. I also enjoy artistic gymnastics, but my favorite sport is professional football - hence my username ColtsFan86 (Indianapolis Colts, fan since 1986). A strange juxtaposition for a female sports fan, but I just go with it.

Looking forward to getting to know the regulars here!

Hey everybody!

I was an FSW lurker, but I've actually posted a few times over here. I found lots of familiar names here, and I'm hoping some of my favorite posters from FSW post here too! I started skating after my 2nd child was born. My husband can skate a little, and he told me I needed to learn to skate because that way he could skate with our son, and I could skate with our daughter. 10 years later, I'm the only one still skating. I have progressed to minor jumps - waltz jump, toe loop, salchow. I do two-foot spins badly, and I don't spin on one foot at all. All my really bad falls have been on spins. Anyway, I'll check in and try and post here as often as possible. Adios

I have been having problems logging in tonight too.
It took me about 6 tries.
The funny thing is that I don't miss FSW at all.
I guess it is because it had just gotten too bad with all the fighting and bashing.

Hi everyone! I'm 34 and from Indiana but I mainly watch skating in Canada. I didn't post a whole lot on FSW but I checked in on things regularly. I joined FSW when Adrian ran it too. I had already subscribed to Iskater before this happened because I was desperate during worlds when I couldn't go but after the way they've handled everything, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with them regardless of the money. Their new board isn't worth checking because there is so little going on there. Glad we have alternatives!! :D

CherylS
05-29-2002, 03:06 PM
It currently says there are a total of 53 topics and 116 posts but a lot of that is administrative stuff. Really not much going on at the old FSW to be worth bothering with and it would serve them right if it stays that way and membership drops! Does that sound bitter???

Hi, I just signed up over here since this seems to be where everyone is. I'm signed up over at Iskater, too, but mostly I signed up for the live web-casts. The boards over there are starting slow, but a few new people are posting each day.

Oh, and I'm 32 years old, married and I live in Seattle, WA. I'd been over at FSW since shortly after the 98 Olympics. My favorite skater is Michelle, but I also like Tim, Alexei, Jamie and David, Todd, and Irina. Although Sarah's not one of my favorites, I can certainly respect what she did at the Olympics. Great skate from a nice kid at the right time.

I'm here, and I've got the same username that I did at FSW.

Imagine my shock when I returned home Tuesday after a holiday weekend away and discovered that FSW had "locked us out." As I drove around doing errands Wednesday morning, I thought about possible things to say in a nasty e-mail to iskater.com, but I suppose they don't care about FSW members anyway, at least if shutting down the boards w/no advance notice is any indication (and I didn't even get an e-mail from them after it happened like I hear some others did). Oh, well, I'm glad to have found this board, where it looks like a lot of familiar posters will be hanging out.

Many thanks to Adrian for creating and managing this board.

I switched! I'm still Snowflake3939. I wrote iskater an e-mail saying thanks but no thanks and goodbye to Helen. Got a short note back from Helen thanking me for my kind words about her and that she would pass my e-mail on to iskater. I only hope Helen won't be out of a job now when they get very few subscriptions. I can't believe Paul would let this happen.

Hi Summertime,
Yes, that's me, the same snowflake that was at the Keg in Vancouver. I finally got to give the ornament to Alexei in Saskatoon at Skate Canada in November - I was able to give it to him personally instead of throwing it on the ice because he was sitting a couple of rows behind me. Glad to hear from you.

Messalina
06-01-2002, 10:30 AM
Count me as another refugee. I also posted as Messalina over at FSW, where I'd been going regularly pretty much for four years. Adrian was the moderator back when I first joined - and a great one - so I'm a little sheepish that it took this for me to come over here.

FSW was the first "home" I found on the Internet - though I lurked more than I posted - and the Rinkside section had become my everyday check-in point after I started skated myself in January. Any other former Rinksiders out there?

I was offline for a few days and came back to discover that FSWorld had simply locked us out. I would not pay $65 for ANY website. The gall!! I hate to be vindictive, but I hope iskater goes down for this. I mean, the truth of the Internet is that boards get closed and sites go away from time to time. But this is the first time a board I visit vanished and went premium without any prior warning. That is just plain rude and disrespectful.

Anyway, thanks for having me over here! These boards look great.

I had thought after the changes at FSW that I would go for the summer without the boards and then get back on in Sept. I can't go that long. I have been on FSW since 1997 and I had been happy with a lot of what iskater had done but not everything. The way they have gone about this was not smart and it will cost them. Until there is an event worth following through Iskater and FSW I won't be signing up. I actually can't believe that they will stay a paying board for long. I can understand paying by event or for the coverage, but not for the boards. I used to post at both FSW and SkateForum and I lurk several other places. This looks like it will be the closest to what we have all been used to before iskater took over. Looking forward to re-connecting with many of my fellow refugees.
