I will translate it for you who don´t understand swedish.
New times for swedish figureskater
It is a time of change for figureskater Åsa Persson. New coach, new technic, new country.
- I felt it was time for a change If I am going to develop as far as posible. I do a great investment for Olympics 2006 with Europeans at home in january as a part goal.
In june she leaved Sweden for Edmonton, Canada. With money from the Swedish olympic committes talent program she will train under swedish coach Jan Ullmark at Royal Glenora Club one step a time reach the worlds best. The goal is clear:
- A medal in Olympics 2006 ore 2010.
It was three things who get her to chose Edmonton:
*There is not such big icecenters in Europe.
*It`s much chepier than in United States.
*The coach Jan Ullmark.
Jan Ullmark has worked in Kanada for over 20 year and coached many good skaters.
-I had actually never met him before I came here, but I have heard so much good about him, Åsa says. He is fantastic to work with. He know all you have to know about this sport and how the body works.Noting is new for him, his experience is valuble for me.
If anything is new for the coach, all is new for Åsa.
-It is a very big change for me. I have in big changed all my tecnique in my jumps. There is no joxed any more, we do that who is best for the body physically.
- I go to ballett training every day and do harder off-ice than I ever have done before. I have got a whole new insight about who the body works. Now I know why I miss a jump and can work from there in a whole new way than I did at home.
-It´s hard when the body don´t can do the jumps. I have done one competition since I came here and I mixed old and new tecnique and it went really bad. But I know that it will be fine in the end and the most important thing is that I feel that I am on the right way, that the practise take me forward.
-To practise with skaters on my own level is also development. I missed that at home.
How long she willl stay in Canada she don´t know yet.
-I will be here this whole season and then I will se what happens.
The next time she will be in Sweden is in the beginning of December to skate in the Swedish nationals in Uddevalla. A gold medal there and the place to Europeans in Malmö is garanted.
-My big goal this year is this Europeans and the whole plan for the season is done with this competitions in the mind. It should be so much fun to compete in my home country almost at my hometown. At the moment she is the only senior lady who can do the minimum test the swedish figureskating association is asking for to compete. You have to do four different tripplejumps (three in the same competition), but she knows that she have to do a strong nationals to be sure of the place. But she says:
- I look for a top ten placement at Europeans.
She will do one competition before nationals. I skate a competition here in about two weeks. In the beginning I was going to do more competitions, but we feel that it is more important for me to practice now. It is what I need if I am going to achieve my goals. Last year she was number 23 on Europeans and therefore missed her place to the Olympics in Salt Lake City.
-I was very disappointed, but maybe it was the best for me at that time. I wasn´t in shape to do a good competition and maybe my development as a skater had been damaged. But to Torino 2006 she are going. And then not to be number 23. There I want to have a medal.
