I must admit a lot of the programs on that sample program schedule sound like great ideas (the old competitions/shows, the "learn to skate" show), but others sound a little too good to be true. Skating News At Noon? As much as I would love to see a program like that on a daily basis, I just wonder if there really is enough skating news out there to warrant a daily news show (especially in the middle of summer!) The "Skate N' Bake" cooking show? A figure skating-based soap opera?

It does definitely sound like a dream come true, though...even though I'm afraid I'll never leave my TV set again if a channel like this ever becomes avaliable in my area! ;)

What would be fun (and probably only in my dreams) is if that news show would talk about things like at Unseen Skaters (http://www.unseenskaters.com) - "obscure" skaters from all different parts of the world and the latest news with them. The REAL up and coming network!

Is this a joke, or is it serious?

Well, it seems that the domain is owned by Michael Rosenburg (http://www.courttv.com/graphics/onair/shows/mugshots/indepth/harding/rosenberg.jpg), who's not exactly an unknown in the skating world. But it seems a bit ambitious. A joke, I'm not certain...

(Okay, I'm going to stop replying to my own topic, I know that's pathetic, but I'm bored and keep learning more!) :)

It is ambitious. Most of these digital channels air 8 hours of programming per day and then repeat it 3 time. 24 hours of original programming? Not even the networks do that!

Be still my heart.

I only hope that our cable service privider would add it. I don't live in a large city and that hurts sometimes.

What a dream!

I would have to see it to believe it.

I wondered if Michael Rosenberg was going to just going to fade away. Looks like he has a project. Actually if this is truly his baby, it lends a lot more credence to it. He may have the connections that could pull it off. Good luck to him.

I think, if it does happen, there will be a lot of growing pains but it would be lovely if it could succeed.

If it is true.. no wonder how much he paid for the footage!!! 8O 8O

anyone know how we can write in to Rosenburg and send him our support?

So would that mean that ABC wouldn't carry events anymore, or would they on both channels. Wouldn't it be great to see every competitor at an event???

I personally would pay a reasonable price for this channel. Unfortunately I live in North Carolina. Now what are the odds that my cable provider will offer this channel to me???? I better get to emailing them.

I heard somewhere that they would put some of these sports channels together in a package to subscribe to (like tennis). Maybe that would help offset the cost.

Rumor has it that the Ice Channel also involves CMM (Collins Marshall Management). It would be nice to think that there might again be a competitive management concern in skating (besides IMG).

Rosenberg's address is:
Michael Rosenberg Enterprises
418 Vista Creek
Palm Desert, CA 92260

Yikes! That would be super exciting! So it says "Call your Local Cable/Satellite Operator and request that it carry THE ICE CHANNEL next year." Does anybody have suggestions as to how to do that? I mean, are they are going to know what I'm talking about? I'd email, rather than phone. So do you think giving them the website would be a good idea? I'm just not sure. So any suggestions would be great.

I talked to a manager at DirecTV today. He told me that The Ice Channel IS on their schedule for next year. He did not have an idea of what the fee would be. I assume it will be about $8-10 a month.

Designdiva - who just ordered the west coast ABC broadcasts because the DC affiliate would rather show cartoons.

Geez, I'm thinking I should give up on getting &%%^ Comcast cable installed and go for DirectTV (if it's at all affordable) instead!

Michele,

I'm a DirecTV convert.

We switched to DirecTV for the *sole* purpose of watching the Tour de France. (OLN wasn't offered by Cox Cable. And don't get me started on Comcast.

It's not much more than cable w/ premium service.. but you don't have to get all the extras, and that brings you right in line with cable service, and the installation and dish are usually free. It is worth it - especially if you like movies or sports.

Today I found out that Tennis Channel and Ice Channel are starting up at the same time. Tennis Channel costs $4.95 a month. I assume that's what Ice Channel is going to cost.

I'm so excited.:P

We have Time Warner digital cable and absolutely LOVE it...they've got the same channels as the Dish network (actually more if you count the 50-something music channels!) and great service...and no stupid dish hanging off the side of your house LOL. I would think if the Dish network says they're adding it then we will be getting it on cable too since they usually seem to match each other service-wise. I already e-mailed our cable company to request it, hope it happens!! It's about time somebody started an all skating network...maybe now I'll get to see all those Skate America comps that our stupid local affiliate deemed unworthy to show.

Speedy - DISH has the music channels too. I have had better service than cable too - actually tons better service. Probably depends on the cable company. Love my DISH.

I need to call them to see if they will be carrying the Ice channel.

I found this over at FSU - didn't know how to post a link - hope it's OK to copy and paste!

"I called Rosenberg's office to see if it was true, and his secretary assured me that it was. Apparently Michael Rosenberg is going full speed ahead with exactly what's planned on that website - www.theicechannel.com - with his partners, Jay Rosenstein and Ray Harmon - two VPs from CBS. She said CMM wasn't involved, but that Lee Marshall might be. That's all she could tell me, but said more information would be publicized soon. So cool! "

Can I please fall on my face in shock now? I was mildly intrigued when I casually brought up the topic but now I am starting to panic because I won't ever walk out of the door again if this happens.

I have Warner cable also I called them to put my two cents in. The lady had not heard of the ice channel but did assure me she would pass on the information I figure I will call a few hundred more times.I still can't believe it is even a possibility. Now if someone would start a horseshow channel I would never move from the TV

No kidding! My husband is getting a wee bit worried about that possibility, lol.
