Just wondering if anyone out there has any reviews from Octoberfest, particularly of the dance events?
Thanks in advance! :)

Takeshi Honda was amazing!!!!! 4toe/3toe, 3axel, 3lutz - clean short to a standing ovation!!!!!!

Jen Robinson was also impressive. Major increase in speed. 3lutz(2 foot) 2toe, 3flip, 2axel. The quality of the program was incredible.

Dance....only saw parts of Junior Dance - both Brad & Mylene, and Lauren & Andrew look terrific!!!!!

Sorry, I missed most of dance.

Senior Pairs: Lariviere/Faustino vs. Hartsell/Hintzman - although L&F won, IMO the decision should have gone the other way. Lenny fell on his triple jump, and their one spin was WAY out of unison. Steve & Marcy were very very impressive....this is the first time I have seen this pair, and to think they've only been skating together 3 months....they are something. They both landed their jumps, and other than a slight loss of unison on one spin, they were clean.

Senior Ladies: Jennifer was great, except for one two foot landing. Lesley Hawker has a beautiful program...unfortunately she missed two of her jumps, but landed an effortless double axel. Hopefully she can put it all together in the free.

Senior Men: Takeshi was very "on" tonight - a wonderfully difficult and quick program, skated flawlessly. Beautiful quad-triple. Jeff Buttle also skated great, only missing the quad. I love his new program...a whole new look for him.

Thanks luckiest1 for the review! Nice to hear about Takeshi and Jeff :)

Can't wait to see Steve Hartsell with his new partner.

So, Buttle landed the 3A? I'm glad to hear he's going for the quad.

And what about Ferreira? How did he do?

I believe some of the judges agreed with you. I also found Hartsell/Hintzman to be impressive especially since they have not been together that long. I loved their program and the softness about their elements. L & F - actually it is nice to see her skating so well. She looks so confident out there - you rarely see Lenny miss a jump so I think with her improved consistancy (from several years ago) they could do quite well this year too. What a treat to see these two pairs and Takeshi and Jeff all in the same evening in a skating rink north of Toronto!

Isabelle - I saw the senior orginal dance but I am really dance challenged - although I did actually judge this event right! Even us untrained folk could identify speed, difficulty and unison in this event. I like the ballroom music type for a change a bit tired of the spanish stuff after last year.

Ben fell on his quad, stumbled out of his axel and singled the lutz.

His spins and footwork have improved eons though.

Yikes, if Ben missed all three jump elements like that, I can just imagine what the skaters below him were like.

Looking forward to hearing how Honda, Buttle and Ferreira skated today.

All three top guys skated well tonight. I didn't take notes, but....

Takeshi Honda: I am not sure if he tripled his quad toe attempt or not (I was behind a video camera at the time) but I do know he landed his quad salchow right in front of us! He popped a couple of his triples, but landed a triple axle for sure. He wore a much improved costume from the Campbell's International - this one has a black base, but the "wrappings" were grey, and very snug, nothing loose at all, with a slight scalloped edge at the small of his back....very very nice. I love this program more each time I see it.

Jeff Buttle: Jeff skated his new long program, but wore an old outfit, all grey. He landed a triple triple early on, missed his first axle attempt...then his music stopped prematurely, and it took quite a long time for the sound people to find it again....but he continued on as if nothing at all had happened, kept the momentum and the flow, and landed more triples, including a triple axle. It's a beautiful program, classical....I think he'll do well with it.

Ben Ferreira: Ben also wore mostly grey, and skated very well tonight. He landed at least one triple axle, although he had to put his foot down almost immediately afterwards. He did a few combinations....great speed, much improved positions. Solidly deserved third place.

Actually, Ben's costume was wonderful. The shirt is flowing, in a blue, silvery tone, with a deep blue velvet pant. The shirt is high waisted in the front, with a beautfiul beaded belt. Very classical, and very complimentary to Ben!!!

Jeff deserves amazing kudos....the music was stopped for at least 5 minutes....he picked it up with no leadin.....and within 30 seconds did a 3axel. Very impressive..... The overall program is wonderful to watch....it is totally different than his last year's.....and his musicality and inovativeness is evident.

Overall, was a wondeful senior men's event!

So happy to hear these news about Honda! WOW! I have liked his skating for years, because he has such a natural talent for interpretation of music. It always feels exactly right, not too little and and not too much. He never goes over the top. When I see a skater going over the top I feel that he lacks the talent for interpretation, everything is just choreographed.

Glad about Jeffrey as well! I´m very much looking forward to his skating this season.

I'm wondering why Jen Robinson didn't skate the long program, anyone know?

Regarding the senior women's event free skate
I was impressed with Heather Geboers (not sure if I spelled that correctly). I believe she won the event and deserved to win. She also skater with a wrap or cast on her left hand.

While I was not impressed with Lesley Hawker's jumps, her presentation was amazing. I wondered how she could keep smiling after falling or doubling every triple except the salchow.

Both of these girls were very on in the warm up. They both landed triple lutz/double toes but did not land them in their programs.

I was not as impressed with Jen Robinson like everyone else. I agree her speed has improved, but I don't think her jumps have. There was a huge gap between the footwork and her triple flip and it did not have that effortless look that other top skaters have. Her spins are good though.

Just my opinion.

It had originally been announced that Jennifer had withdrawn from the entire event, so most of us were surprised when she skated the short. I don't think there was any reason that she withdrew from the long, other than the fact that her GP events are coming up and she didn't want to do another program.....apparently there wasn't much ice for practise for the skaters.
Lesley Hawker can land those triples in practise - when she gets them down competitively, she will be a force to be reckoned with. She has more presentation in her little finger than most of our Canadian ladies do in their entire bodies IMO. Plus, as you mentioned, she has a smile that NEVER quits, no matter how her program is going.
If anyone is interested, a friend of mine does her official site - http://www.lesleyhawker.ca.tc

Did anyone have any reports on Adriana DeSanctis?

Sylvia
10-30-2002, 08:14 AM
DeSanctis wasn't listed in either of the two Junior ladies groups at Octoberfest:
http://www.skatecanada-centralontario.com/Irma/Octoberfest%202002/default.htm

Top 4 Junior ladies in Flight 2 were:
1 Signe RONKA GRANI 2.0 2 1
2 Jocelyn HO TORON 3.5 3 2
3 Meagan DUHAMEL WALDE 3.5 1 3
4 Meredith BOXBERGER MARIP 6.0 4 4

Doe anybody have any reports on them?

Signe Ronka had a good skate including triple sal, triple toe\triple toe(second triple toe cheated) another triple toe and a triple loop
Jocelyn Ho also had a good skate incluing two triple sals and a triple toe
Meagan Duhamel did not have a good skate at all, she managed to land only 2 triples, sal and toe, after completing every triple cleanly on the warm up
