Learned at a new moves seminar today that the video of the 1st novice element (4 lobes x threes / rocker choctaws) on the usfsa site is wrong-- thay've changed the transition steps. If you haven't made it to a seminar i'd recommend getting the new dvd because there are a lot of little details that are easy to miss too!
If anyone wants to see the correct transitions i can try to do a quick demo video this week if you're interested.

Hello Phoenix - forgive me...Im new;)
Saw on facebook that there was a seminar recently in Chicago for MIF? Was this coaches only?
My daughter - 25 - is considering getting back on the ice and finish tests in moves and she left off needing to pass Novice. So this interesting that there are changes being made. I believe she tried three times - and became discouraged.
Is there a way to find - for skaters or parents - when seminars are scheduled? Thanks so much.

The PSA "Educational Events" page is a little out of date, I believe they're in the process of updating their entire site - it has a different look and feel on the main page.
The "Calendar of Events" link is usually up-to-date and includes the different types of seminars.
http://www.skatepsa.com/Calendar-Of-Events-PSA.htm (http://www.skatepsa.com/Calendar-Of-Events-PSA.htm)
There are only a few "PSA Moves in the Field" seminars still being offered through August 2010 - they were rolled out in September 2009. These seminars were designed to go through the Moves changes from soup to nuts, with an experienced presenter.

Anyone is welcome to attend, skater, judge, or coach. If you're not a PSA member, the seminar fee is slightly higher. I know judges' fees were waived at our local seminars.
In August, the PSA begins their Nationwide Seminars. They're one-day workshops with both on- and off-ice topics. Again, open to anyone, discount for PSA members. You'd have to contact the coordinator (listed on the calendar) to see if the Moves topics are included in the seminar agenda.
I think Phoenix attended "Judges School" seminar, which is hosted by the USFSA and the PSA. Those events are also open to skaters, coaches and judges. Those seminars are listed on the USFSA website under "Events"

I was at the Hoffman Estates MIF Seminar. I see you're in Indiana--there's one in OH this coming Sat. which looks like it's the closest one to you. You can register after the deadline, just have to pay a late fee. Contact the host to inquire about registering late.
If she gets to go tell her to bring her skates as there's about 3 hours of on-ice throughout the day.

Here is my video of the demonstration yesterday. It shows the correct transitions. NOTE: the last transition has not changed--just the first 2.

I was at the Hoffman Estates MIF Seminar.
I was at that seminar, too, and found it beneficial. I'm confused about how to fill out my affidavit, though - was this considered a Nationwide Seminar? Someone told me it was US Figure Skating Educational Event. phoenix, what did you call it?

The PSA lists the Hoffman Estates' event as a "PSA Moves in the Field Seminar."

Yes, but that isn't one of the choices listed on the affidavit. Thus my confusion.

I see; they usually announce it at the seminar when they tell you the number of credits to claim. I checked with a coach who attended an earlier seminar in another state and she wrote "PSA Moves Seminar" on the "Other i.e. Skate Canada" line.
