DD (9) passed preliminary freestyle with flying colors, with one of the judges coming out of the judges room to tell her how beautiful her skating was.

The bad news is she didn't pass intermediate moves (darn brackets). But...every judge wrote a note on her test sheet about what great skating ability she had and that she just needed to practice the test a bit more.

This was her first retry for testing ever.

No!! My 10 yo was taking pre juv (she didn't pass). My 9 yo was taking preliminary FS and Intermediate MIF. She passed the preliminary FS.

Congratulations! Apparently the new moves are going to be much harder to pass. One of the judges I know was at a retraining seminar last week and said that the new moves are going to be judged more like the old figures --- the turns and edges are going to have to be just as precise! I was warned that it is going to be more difficult to pass now.

I know, that is why she was trying to pass them now- but she didn't. Next try.

Are all the levels becoming more difficult or just the higher levels? Dd was going to try to take prelim moves in June but we were unable to do it. When do the new requirements take place and what can we expect? Dd already knows the moves, but needs to fine tune them, I am sure. :)

I think mainly the higher levels.

Preliminary and prejuvenile will get new simple figures-based moves that will require skaters to develop some new skills, so it might take several months to learn the new move for each of those tests up to test standard. But the rest of the tests will be made a little easier by combining or shortening some moves to save time.

Juvenile will have two moves added to it that were formerly on the intermediate test. So it will get longer and a more challenging to stamina, but not really more difficult technically.

Intermediate will be where more difficult new skills start to be important.
