For those of you that may not remember, the Fredericksburg ice rink closed last year in June. It was replaced by an indoor go cart place. I predicted that the go kart place wouldn't last a year as Fredericksburg doesn't have a big enough population to support that kind of activity.
Today I drove by and saw they had young kids posted outside at the crossroads with signs reading "indoor go karts! 40 mph!" Outdoor sign waving, Always a sign of desperation.
Who's going to go ride indoor go karts in summer when they can go ride outdoor go karts (and cheaper too!) Who's going to ride indoor go karts in winter? When they want to be skating or skiing? It was doomed from the start.
If the go karts go down, the owners of the mall are left with a big stinking empty building with no renter as a an attraction for the little shops around the rink. The chinese restaurant that depended on the hockey teams will fail, the ice cream parlor will go, sigh. I loved that rink. I miss it.
