1 Tessa VIRTUE / Scott MOIR CAN 224.43
2 Meryl DAVIS / Charlie WHITE USA 223.03
3 Federica FAIELLA / Massimo SCALI ITA 197.85
4 Nathalie PECHALAT / Fabian BOURZAT FRA 194.39
5 Sinead KERR / John KERR GBR 189.11
6 Alexandra ZARETSKY / Roman ZARETSKY ISR 181.26
7 Vanessa CRONE / Paul POIRIER CAN 180.30
8 Ekaterina BOBROVA / Dmitri SOLOVIEV RUS 177.23
9 Emily SAMUELSON / Evan BATES USA 168.77
14 Kimberly NAVARRO / Brent BOMMENTRE USA 159.68

Tessa/Scott and Meryl/Charlie continue to be in a class of their own. Meryl & Charlie actually won the free dance (Tessa & Scott had a deduction), but the Olympic champs had enough of a lead to win overall. I can't wait to see how these two teams continue to push each other -- what a great time for ice dance!

And four North American teams in the top 10 ... how great is that? (For those of us that like the "North American style" that is.)

What a great competition!! I LOVE both top teams and I think IJS is workin- Meryl and Charlie had such a great freedance and won that dance - 2nd overall, but really the teams are both so beautiful and so well-matched.

Lovely, just lovely. And yes, more N. American teams - FINALLY - so great for ice dance!

I really felt that Davis and White should have won overall this time.

Both short and long were very close, could have gone either way, but Moire & Virtue did have a mistake in the freedance.

In the Olympics I had no problem with the result, M&V deserved it. But this time I feel it was the wrong placment. Except for the lifts, I felt M&V were definitely much flatter than in the Olympics, While Davis and White bumped it up a notch or two.

I agree...and I rarely get political and God help me for saying this. But..ok, a North American team won which was M&V but it almost seems like the powers that be just can not allow an AMERICAN - USA team to win the gold in dance. There I said it. And yes, M&V are amazzzzzzing, totally amazing. But D&W are too!!! And thier OD at worlds I'm sorry was untouchable. There is still bias. there omg I said it again.

Virtue and Moir did get downgraded from level 4 to level 3 for their twizzles and received lower GOEs. There GOE marks were on average +1 which is a little generous for the mistake but the second twizzle was perfect so maybe the average of -1 and +3 is +1. Regardless, they did lose a couple points for the mistake and that's how the system works - you don't automatically lose because you make one mistake.

The top two teams are obviously in a class of their own. Coming from an ice dance background I can tell you that at worlds there was still a recognizable difference between virtue and moir and davis and white in parts of the competition.

Compulsories - Virtue and Moir had far superior leg line and body carriage

OD - In this portion they are equal

FD - Very different approaches. Davis and White are very aggressive and quick like the music calls for. The unfortunate trade-off is difficulty in achieving unison and extension. This is the biggest reason why VM receive high program component marks.

What I find quite interesting is that it's impossible to imagine the couples trading programs. I doubt either would be successful, which demonstrates how well personalize the programs are for the teams.

ITA. Which is why the Shpilband-Zueva team deserves a lot of cudos. A lot of coach/choreographers (*ahem* Morozov, Tarasova) seem more concerned about branding with their own style rather than with considering the skater's strengths. Igor & Marina have consistently guided their teams with programs that suit their unique abilities. Impressive stuff.
