I just ordered a new book, but can someone explain to me the new Gold/silver ect levels.
Do you test them if you are already an fs level ie 5 or 6? Or are you just that level ie Gold? What are the guildlines for spotlight and artistic? Is gold really any jump in artistic or spotlght or did I misunderstand? What are the time limits?
Any information would be great thanks!!!

My understanding is that if you've passed ISI FS tests you can skate at the appropriate open bronze, silver, gold & platinum levels (i.e. a FS 5 skater can skate in open silver or gold, a FS6 skater in gold, etc.). Testing at the new levels seems to be geared towards USFS skaters who haven't gone through all the ISI tests (i.e someone could do just the gold test rather than all the ISI tests up through FS5).

As far as the manuever limitations, I believe you're correct. See the chart on this site: http://www.skateisi.com/site/contentPDF/2010RuleRevisions.pdf

Actually, I have a related question. Can you skate "up" in these new levels? For example, my daughter has only tested through ISI FS4. Would she need to do additional FS tests or the gold or platinum test to skate above silver?

I found a magazine ISI from last spring that explained it a little better. It looks like if she has tested juv, she could skip ISI 5 and and just go to GOLD.If she is only prelim, she would just be silver UNLESS she takes the GOLD test which doesnt seem to be hard.If she takes the ISI 5 test she can be Silver or Gold.
hope that helps!
