Good competition weekend!

My younger skated preliminary freeskate- her coaches decided to skip the double toe (unreliable) in favor of a flip loop and it paid off. She had a nice clean skate with one double sal, and 2 axels (one with a loop) and ended up with the silver medal. A lot of her group tried 2 doubles and missed both. She also got the silver in compulsory spins.

My middle skated no test- she was last but she took it much better than in the past- so I was proud of her. She did pull out the bronze in compulsory moves- so that made her happy!

So a find start to the season!:P

Well done. It must be rough for your middle child to be skating not as high level as her younger sister. I'd be interested to hear how they (and you) handle things.

Well done. It must be rough for your middle child to be skating not as high level as her younger sister. I'd be interested to hear how they (and you) handle things.

It has been difficult at times. My older girl just isn't willing to put in the time and effort that my younger one does, so beside the fact that I think the younger is a bit more naturally athletic, the personality difference is a factor too.

Last year, the older didn't compete at all after the first time because she was whiny on the ice, didn't want to practice and then acted poorly when she lost. So I made her take a break. She still skated, but no competition.

So this year, I gave her another chance, with groundrules and asking her to manage her OWN expectations. I never pressure her to skate, or to not quit- that is all her. She is now starting to settle into her own path, not as competitive as the younger and she is beginning dance as well. So maybe a different path for her.

Way off topi for your thread - my daughter only started skating (public skate/public hire skates) at about the age of 8 and only regular skating at 9 years & 3months.

She worries that her little brother (age 7) is learning things at a much younger age and willl overtake her. He worries a bit that when he finally does a beginner competition that he won't do as well as she did (she has always been very graceful and artistic where he looks a little bit like a hockey skater sometimes).

Generally though - they praise and support each other quite a bit although my son could do with his sister being a bit less critical of his back-spin (only 3 rotations on a good day) and his sit spin ( if he goes down he never comes up)!

I have tried to get him into other sports though.... and he prefers skating!
