Hi
DD will be preparing for her first competition. Coach told us some things on dressing for the event. She said any kind of skin colored tights are fine with her. DD has been skating in tight and leggings. The tights are Tic Tac Toe brand with "seamless seams". They are hand linked so the seam is as flat as the part with no seam. These do not come in skin colored. So she tried on the skating tights and the seam really irritated her. She does not like the over the boot look because she wants her skate to show (she polishes them after every practice and lesson to keep them white). Are footless tights ok? I would have to pull them over the hooks so they don't ride up. I have never seen that done though.

Yes, footless is fine. That's what I prefer to wear.

My coach did not like footless tights of the hooks because he said it made my legs look stubby. I know lots of skater who wear footless tights in their boots though. I've never had a problem with them riding up if they fit down to my ankles.
If your coach is picky, I'd ask before buying. But unless you are going to a really "important" competition- over the hooks should be fine.

We use in the boot; I don't like footless, or over the boot, and our coach won't go for them. Some use stirrup tights; we're not allowed, also by coach directive, and I don't like them anyways.
Why not use the in the boot ones? If that brand bothers her, try Mondor: they are nice and comfy, and you can get thick ones for practice, or thinner ones (which we do) for competition, as it looks sleeker. They are easy to get, I believe.
I did see once a pair of footless tights "snap up" on a skater's legs during a competition; it flustered the poor kid quite a bit, unfortunately.

Coach is not picky about the tights. DD is picky about seams. All her undershirts are worn inside out because of the seams, as is her underwear. I tried the stirrup, but she says it bothers her arch. It is the seam again. She actually gets a rash where the seam rubs. I'm just going to have to get the footless and hope nobody minds.

My daughter has always be bothered by the seams, even in everyday socks. What we do is turn them inside out.

the stirrup can be clipped OVER the boot, not inside the boot; that's the way most wear them around here.

The ones I got don't have a clip. The loop is about two inches, just barely enough for a foot.

The ones I got don't have a clip. The loop is about two inches, just barely enough for a foot.In boot/in shoe stirrups were very fashionable in the 1980's. :frus: I have heel spurs in both feet thanks to too-thick ones and too many jumps. To this day, it hurts when anything is under my rear instep/forward heel - a sock wrinkle, a pant hem, rocks, small animals, lol.
You can change the elastic and add clips - they sell them at sewing/fabric stores. It's just a few stitches. Then the stirrup clips under the instep, between the blade stanchions.
Another thing to try is looping the elastic around the skate boot heel, not inside, but it might not be long enough. Draw the loop down the back of the boot and then forward under the sole to hook it over the inside of the boot heel, near the instep. It'll wrap around the blade stanchion, but if it's long/stretchy enough, it'll stay.
If all else fails, cut off the stirrups, add a casing and elastic hem, and you have over-the-boot tights.

My daughter is very much like yours - it means she "has" to wear stirrup (outside the boot) or over the boot. Its not the best look for her unfortunately as she has very long skinny legs and big feet. So far we haven't managed to sort anything in the boot yet which she's happy with!
Beware what dresses you buy. I've had to sell several because they "itch" or have a seem in the wrong place. She often has to wear a Mondor flesh covered long sleeved leotard under what she skates in. Crystals drive her mad without this undershirt.

Me too! I bought that Mondor skin colored leo and she tried the whole ensamble on. We had to put the Mondor leo inside out, even those seams bothered her.

Your DD seems to be rather sensitive to the seams on these products. What is it that bothers her? I am assuming she doesn't wear all her regular clothing inside out to avoid the seams on them. ;)
If they irritate her skin she could have an allergy to lycra or one of the other products used in the stretch fabric.

When I have to wear tights for competing or shows I wear mondor footless and either put them over the top of my skate hooks or just inside down my ankle (my tights are one size larger so they are not squeezing me).
I wear my socks inside out-toe seams bother the heck out of me!
I had one lady at the rink say to me "excuse me, your socks are on inside out"
my reply, "yes, I know"
her response, "oh, um ok" and she had a perplexed look on her face-I know she wanted to ask why but she didn't

She has sensory integration disorder. She will eventually outgrow most of it. It seems they have a name for everything now.
And no, just the underclothing is inside out!!!

If you are small footed (up to size 6 women's) you can get Tic Tac Toes. They are for kids, but I know from experience that small footed adults can wear the large. The seams are hand linked so it really feels seamless.

:P Then OUT with the seams! Maybe she will start a new trend at the rink.

If it was a big concern, you could try de-sensitizing her (or she could try herself). My son had this and I worked with him for a long time. He would not even wash his hands....he did not like the way soap felt!

I've never seen them around here-what store did you get them at?

I love new trends! Go for it!

I usually get them at Nordstrom. If there is not one near you, I just looked it up on amazon and they have several styles

I'm 5'3 105lb and I can wear the 12-14 year old tights. So you may also be able to fit in their tights. They are really comfy and no seams!

Desensitizing therapy has helped a lot with the oral hypersensitivity. And she just started washing her face. She did not like the feeling either. It was so bad she would actually vomit.

Footless tights are just fine, I usually compete in footless tights and I think they look just as polished as over the boot tights.
