a few months back, I posted a post about whether or not we were going to stick with dd's current club or move on to another club. Last year was dd's first year in a club and the experience could have been better, IMO. It wasn't awful but it definately didn't have the unity/support we were looking for. One set of coaches tended to dominate ice time and things felt very divided between their students(high in numbers) and the "other" students. Because my daughter has a very good friend in her club, we decided to give it another try. Not to mention, this rink is closer for us(5 min as opposed to 20-25 min) and it is where dd has skated from the get-go.

I am happy to report that things are better this season! Dd has more friends this year and seems MUCH happier. She feels more valued too. The division is still there, but the fact that there are new kids with different coaches joining, has helped A LOT. I recently mentioned to another mom how much more satisfied we are with the club this year compared to last year. I told her I had seriously considered switching clubs and why. She told me she almost did the same thing for the same reasons we thought of switching. That only validated that I was not imagining things! She agreed that things felt better this year. Hopefully this trend continues because a change was definately needed! YAY!

Glad to hear it's gotten better. A lot of times, a few different members joining can make a big difference. For anyone who has a concern about the atmosphere at their club, definitely talk to a club board member - they may be unaware of problems and I'm sure, if given the chance, would want to work to improve things rather than lose members.

That is/was part of the problem. Most of the board either has lessons from the coaching team I mentioned or have children who take lessons from them. So, I couldn't go to them and mention the problem I had. KWIM? I suppose I could have, but I didn't know how to approach it w/o offending anyone. I wasn't intending on offending anyone, but I was afraid I might unintentionally do just that since so many of them take lessons from those coaches. I do agree tho, that in most cases going to the board is a good approach.

Sorry, what is KWIM? :halo: It's shorthand for "Know What I Mean"

Hi Isk8NYC

Oh, okay. I am a bit not used to these short abbreviations.

Sorry! I've been typing on forums for about 10 years and forget not everyone knows them. :)
