The ladies have a pretty weak field of women overall. I hope Mirai can medal.
How did Denney and Barrett skate? They're still rough around the edges, but I like them much better than Rockne&Brubaker.

Ok, good thing you put the word "overall" at the end of the sentence or I would have given you *&#! for saying that the world silver medalist is a weak field! ;)
I'm just happy Joannie has a strong SP behind her, since that's her achiles heel. Very strong in fact judging by the score!
And I'm holding my breath for Patick. I don't know why he's only doing the one GP event this year. I hope it pays off for him.

Patrick Chan had an injury to his calf which required him to pull out of this first Grand Prix event the Cup of Russia. He did not plan to only do one grand prix this season.
How did Denney and Barrett skate? They're still rough around the edges, but I like them much better than Rockne&Brubaker.
Denney and Barrett skated almost cleanly. Barrett stepped out of their side by side triple toes. That was the only major error I could tell.

Dennis Ten: very entertaining performance from such a young kid. I love the footwork.

Surpised result for Chan. Did he falter somewhere?
I was rooting for Brezina since he was a breath of fresh air and did so well at his last GP assignment. He can still pull up in the LP.
Which Abbott will show up for the LP? Hmm.
Mahbanoozadeh placed above veterans VDP and Carriere. Go Armin!!!

Surpised result for Chan. Did he falter somewhere?
Chan fell on his triple axle and many of his jumps looked a bit shaky to me. He also had trouble with his spins. I'm wondering if he's 100% yet since the surgery. I felt bad for him. I'm sure it's not the skate he wanted to have.

Comparing the women and then men, I must say that the ladies seem VERY weak. They seem to be trailing very far behing the men with technical elements and presentation.
Not saying all of them, just watching Skate Canada didn't do much for me. The men seem much more exciting these days. Lots of women falling on triple toes and underrotating salchows and loops? Not only are these entry level senior jumps, many of them can't fully complete them - some of them don't even incorporate the triple lutz and flip needed.
Except for Joannie of course, great SP. The differences between 1, 2, 3rd place is crazy. Not even close at all, 70.00, 63?, 56?
As for the OD, what happened with Virtue and Moir? 2 slip ups in a row. Did she catch her blade?
Looking forward to the Pairs Long.

Looked like the first slip she just missed her edge. The commentators claim it was the heaviness of the skirt on Tessa's outfit. The second slip it looked to be the same problem.

Tessa and Scott claimed in their interview that it was just one of those performances where they just felt like they were "off" the whole time.

Quite an interesting long program. Aliona and Robin debuted their new long program. Maria and Maxim were stopped by the referee part way though because Maxim's strap on his pants came undone and was dangling awfully close to his skate blade.

I thought Mirai had a great SP. I have to look at the judge's sheets to see where the deductions, if any, came from. All her jumps looked fully rotated. Maybe a slight flutz.

Too bad Mirai didn't medal despite finishing third in both the SP and LP.
Cizney finished 4th in the LP. Enough said.
Poor Zhang is buried in 8th place. What the heck happened? Ususally she has a crappy SP and then pull up significantly after the LP. Not this year.
Flatt is the front-runner for the Olympic team. I hope Mirai get the second spot.

Caroline fell on both her triple flip attempts. When I looked at her detailed test sheet it also said that her triple loop, double toe, double loop was deemed an invalid element and received zero points. She also got deducted on her 3lutz for a severe wrong edge take off.

Zhang has to fix her flip and lutz entries - she gets creamed on them all the time. I was thinking it looked like she got a lutz called as a flip, and that's why she got the invalid combo called as well, they thought it was an extra one?

Maybe the poster went spoiler free until s/he had a chance to watch the event?

It's so frustrating to watch Czisney. After Joannie's poor performance, Alisa had such a good opportunity to claim the title but alas, she went splat, splat as expected. I just don't see any way the U.S. judges will put her on the Olympic team.

I just don't see any way the U.S. judges will put her on the Olympic team.
So who are the other options? Czisney may not be particularly consistent, but neither is almost anyone else in the women's field. Other than Ashley Wagner, Flatt has the most technical consistency, but that's not saying much -- plus she's such a snore to watch IMO (sorry Rachel, I calls em as I sees em), it would be nice to have someone else with a bit more pizzazz. And if you're basing it on GP results only, Flatt is only one place ahead of Czisney.
And even if Sasha does show up and do well at Nationals (big if! x2), that would be a pretty big gamble for the Olympic selection committee too.
