I was just scrolling down the ISU rankings and noticed something odd in the pairs list. Orscher& Lucash earned 15 points for their bronze medal finish at Obersdorf while Hinzman and Hartsell apprently were awared 60 points for 3rd place at Finlandia. Does anyone know how these points are supposed to be awarded? Or am I reading the chart wrong? How does the ISU work this system?
The ISU posted an explanation that's rather long and convoluted, but the gist of it is that the number of points available in a particular event has to do with the World Rankings of the participants. More higher ranked skaters in an event will mean each of the placements in that event are worth more.
More information about the rankings and how they are calculated can be found here:

Thanks Lee, but that confusses me more. The skaters at Neblehorn were higher ranked than at Finlandia.

I don't believe so...
Fitze/Rex, Spielberg/Joeright, Quigley/Cording, Marcoux/Buntin, etc. have very low rankings...
The teams that H/H competed against (for instance-- C/Palamarchuk and B/Chuvilayev) are ranked much higher in comparison.

I had some confusion about this, too, but the amount of points skaters can get at a minor internaional is not related to the skaters' *overall* points, but rather to the points they received at an ISU senior championship last year.
So in pairs, Chuvaeva & Palamarchuk at Finlandia had points of six hundred and something, I don't think anyone at Nebelhorn had points from an ISU Championship, so they used the minimum at Nebelhorn.

This still doesn't make sense. Because one team had points fromlast year all teams benefit? Well, if thats the rule so be it. Seems to me points should be awarded evenly.
