That's somewhat of a fancy outfit for Evan ... but it's still all black :P

Very suprising result in Ladies, Men and Pairs.
Who would've thought that Mirai is currently leading the ladies and Joannie Rochette is way down in the standing. I hope this means that Mirai has gotten her mojo back for this season.
Nobu is somewhat of a surprise over Evan in the men's.
The Chinese looks like they're making a successful comeback thus far.

Yes, I 8O at that too. The SP has never been Joannie's strength, but that's still surprising.

Not a surprise for me, I've been loving Nobu's skates for the past year+.
Still, it's 1 SP in 1 competition, I won't try to make any more of it than that.

You can type "Cup of China 2009" on utube to see the SP of Evan, Mirai, Nobu and the Chinese pair.
It was very nice seeing Mirai being happy on the ice. Very nice skate. The jumps looked much better and more fully rotated than last year. She seemed very relax and at ease around Frank. Good move for her to switch to him.
Nobu was very fast and excellant flow. Jumps had amazing softness on the landing knee.
Evan was good. The program itself wasn't bad at all. His jumps looked very good. I'm curious as to where he lost or didn't gain points for him to be in 3rd place. Interesting that Evan's skating to Firebird, the same music Linda Fratianne used for the SP in Lake Placid. Frank seems to be recycling some favorite old chestnuts among his top students, LOL.
The Chinese pair looked great. I loved that they're not skating to some old classical standard. This should be a good battle against the Germans.

There are so many men with really outstanding skating qualities at this event.
I loved, loved the choreography for Dennis Ten's "Sing, Sing, Sing" SP. What a talented skater he is.
Yannick Ponsora (sp?) also has a great SP. His speed, flow and performance quality are incredible. Doesn't hurt that he's incredibly easy on the eyes also ;) He had one of the worst fall on a 4T attempt I've ever seen in a competition. I've never seen anyone went into the air so tilted and slammed down onto the ice. Ouch.
Armin B. has a very nice, flowing style. He should do well in the future.
Stephen Carrierre's style is much improved since he moved to Priscilla Hill. His arms position are still somewhat strange sometimes but overall his skating is much better.

Detailed scores are up over at the ISU site - Kostner didn't get any credit for her spiral in the SP - any idea why? Did she just not hold the positions long enough?
