Hi,

I have a situation. My daughter had 3 private lessons before school started with her group lesson instructor. She is now a full time college student with a conficting schedule to my DD. If she were to keep this coach, she would have to wait til next semester and hope the schedules will sync. I don't want her to miss 3 months of lessons, she'd be devestated. Missing september bummed her. I've read so much how changing coaches is so...tense. I do not want to provoke any bad feelings and I don't want to get a reputation of being a coach hopper. If anyone could tell me thier opinion on how to handle this I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

This should be no problem really. I would ask the coach to recommend one or two other coaches who may have schedules compatible with yours. The coach will be appreciative that you value her advice. This leaves the door open to go back to the original coach later if circumstances change. Happy Skating!!

When you do this, be sure to compliment the coach, letting her know how much your DD enjoyed lessons with her, and that you're both sorry the schedules are such a problem.

Thanks

I've already complimented her. Because it was true!

Your comments have sent my mind at bit more at ease.

Wish me luck, I hope I can get her set up by Nov 1.

I don't think you should have any issues. Your daughter had only taken 3 private lessons (versus ending a skater/coach relationship that has lasted several years), and it's nothing against the coach other than schedules not working. It happens. Having to miss 3 months worth of lessons when your daughter is presumably young and a low level skater can cause her to develop bad habits, make little/no progress, and (worse yet) cause her to lose interest in skating altogether.

I'll post update when I have one.
