this is dd's new favorite move. :) She wants to use it in her program... coach says she just needs to pick up more speed and then she can use it. It's fun to watch her do it! She also landed her flip jump a couple of times today. She surprised herself while practicing her 1/2 flips and accidently did a perfect and very pretty full flip jump. You should have seen the look on her face when she did it. LOL!

A spiral sequence, properly done, can be very effective, although few skaters do the "Y spiral" properly. But it isn't really necessary to do one of those at the lower levels.
How funny about the flip! Was she able to repeat it?

Yes, she was able do it again. It wasn't as pretty as the first one but she did it another 2 times after the first one. Then she started over-thinking it! LOL
As for the spiral, she's been doing a regular spiral w/o changing her foot or leg position. It the "y" spiral a side spiral? If so, she's still working on that one. She can do it, just not for very long yet. She has a catch spiral and a regular spiral and has tried other spiral variations, but the side spiral is one she is still working at. Now if she could nail that blasted back spin. LOL I'm seriously considering having one lesson devoted just to that stinken spin. LOL

I always loved the big COE spiral. It seems like the younger skaters don't do them so much now. Maybe not enough points?? My dd does one in her program--her coach put it in first and then built the rest of the program around it. I think you've seen it on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6ckaEz5MMA&feature=channel_page). She just competed this one level up at pre-pre. The Axels weren't great and she fell on her Lutz (:o first time I've ever seen that!!), but she did a big, beautiful, steady spiral and, even better, smiled! It made a big difference. Those were her first Axels in comp, but I'm always going to remember it as the first smile in competition!
I'm sure you're daughter will do it beautifully--she has such a nice high spiral.

Yup, I have seen this video. I still love the speed your daughter has! The spiral your daughter does is exactly what my daughter is trying to do. :) I have video of her working on it too. Funny thing is, in the video she isn't doing it as well as she can now. 2 days after I took the video, she was doing it correctly. Now she needs to get her speed up so she can use it in her program. I think once she gets it down, it will be a beautiful addition to her program! I wish we saw more COE's, they are so pretty! Dd will be competing at the Freeskate 3 level in September. Her spirals won't be a required element, but it sure makes for a lovely presentation! It's been fun watching her do these. Today she worked on her scratch/back spin. Hopefully she can get it down soon! It looked better today, but who knows what her coach will say. LOL! Thanks for the nice comments about dd's spiral. :)
Here is a link to her working on her COE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGH7yT3PNjE Like I said, it's better now then it was then. Once it is faster I'll re-tape it.
