Over the weekend, DD age 10 passed Intemed moves and pre bronze dances, swing,Cha Cha and Fiesta Tango. DS age 8 passed pre juv moves. He has taken them before so we were glad that he passed this time. Now on to Novice but dont think she will test for a year or so.They are looking for alot of power with that test!
Thanks for letting me share!

Yay! Fantastic for your kids! I bet it was a great night at your house!:lol::lol:

Novice was a toughie, they do look for power, sometimes, IMHO, to the exclusion of good technique! I saw some really sloppy-floppy stuff pass at our last session just because the kid looked like he/she was shot out of a cannon!

Dd has been working on Junior for about 2 weeks now, and seems to be catching on a bit faster than with Novice. I wonder if Junior could be a bit "easier"?

Keep in mind that there will be significant changes to the novice and junior MITF tests as of September 2010. That may affect decisions whether to prioritize working on the existing tests with an aim to passing them by next summer or to take time to learn the new versions/new moves and not plan to test until next fall or later.

Thanks for all the good wishes!!
Yes, we know they are changing. Her coach is teaching both the old moves and the new ones.We only have one test session here per year, so it will not be untill at least next July. If she doesnt pass the first time, she will just work on the new ones. She is just turned 10, I am in no hurry for her to test, since I know they want much more out of her than she has now. Someone told me once, they call them Senior moves for a reason lol. Not to have 11 and 12 year old take them:roll:
She always has dances to work on too!

Junior is def easier (and a heck of a lot shorter) than Novice. I think Novice is the hardest test (harder than senior too), partially because of the length.

Granted with the upcoming change to the test, novice will shorten a bit and the new senior step pattern is HARD.

It won't be too bad if she has to test novice under the current way, doesn't pass, and has to do it again under the new changes. They're dropping bracket-3-bracket (yay) and combining the permiter stroking patterns with the end turns (the BO3-mohawks and the quick rocker choctaws) into one single serpentine pattern. I can't remember if there is a new loop pattern being added, but I'm sure that's something her coach is already working on with her because she needs loops for IJS step sequences.

Congrats to both your daughter and son!

I agree with Rachelsk8er - Novice MITF was definitely the most challenging for my daughter. Junior and Senior MITF seemed much easier - she passed both in less than a year after passing novice on her second try.
