My daughter is doing several tests over the holidays and will need a new free skating program for testing and then for competition afterwards.I'm shocked by the sheer numbers of both dance and free tests but she is thrilled to bits. Still 1 1/2 minutes (probably her last 1 1/2 minutes one - think they get longer) and needs a full length step sequence (don't know if this influences music choices).
Her last one was some modern eastern belly dancing music - quite fast and she loves showing off/doing some quite over the top dancing bits between the jumps and spins. She likes fast music, likes a bit of a beat and likes music which has 2 different tempo's in it.
We've listened to some stuff (we found something brillliant the other day - classical music called Skaters Waltz but bet it must be really common) which she loved but said she couldn't "show off" enough in any of the ones we listened to. She is very specific about what she likes and is prepared to skate to! In her fantasy she'd love some latin (samba-ish) but as she does dance as well as free there will be plenty of opportunity for a dance program.
It can't have vocals apparantly.
Her coach will also be looking for music but has asked us to come in with some choices herself over the next week.
Sadly I have no clue even where to start. (And I thought choosing free dance music several months ago was complicated - this seems worse).:??

I had a student skate to "Victory" by Bond this year--it was easy to cut into 1:30, and was very big, fast music & she liked the energy of it.

That is so perfect I've ordered the album. (Listened to it online).
Fingers crossed its liked by coaches.

Victory really suits my daughter and she likes it so much that planning to keep it after next level of tests (?early January) when she'll need a 2 minute program. Thanks so much - we wouldn't have found it without the suggestion here.
Apologies for the bother yet again - but - this time we're looking for a program for novice solo free dance. This last season she had Alesha Dixon's "the boy does nothing". DD is driving me crazy in her search for her new music. She wants drama - either something "dark" or "comedy" and also wants something quite fast. She's watching movies (e.g. Adam's family), listening to circus music, latin, pop, rock, classics - and no closer to any sort of choice. She's thought about Bond (under the winter sun), Barnum music (probably not a good choice as it was used by Torvill and Dean), Poker face (age inappropriate lyrics which wouldn't go down well with judges), and others too numerous for me to recall. She loves (memory here) a fast, beaty version of Hall of the Mountain Kings (Pierre Gynt) that she once heard at a modern dance competition - but - haven't been able to find it anywhere.
I would find it heaven if coaches would hand her three choices and tell her she has to do one of those - but - sadly that won't happen. My computer hard drive is rapidly filling up with music.....
So - if anybody has any more brilliant suggestions we'd love them. Before this child completely wears me down and drives me crazy!

It's Peer Gynt--there are a couple of versions on Itunes, maybe that helps.

How about Maksim? If she likes Peer Gynt, she might like his Grieg's Piano Concerto in A. I love that one. There was a Intermediate level lady that used part of it for her free skate. It's got lots of room for drama. I'd love to skate to it, but it's way too fast for me. If she likes Latin type music, he's got one called Cubana Cubana. No vocals, but they do shout out "Cubana Cubana" in some parts.
You might want to check out Jesse Cook. He's done some flaminco guitar stuff that she might like. I am using the his Dance of Spring for my Adult Bronze test.

Which is why I love our coach and choreographer: they hand the music to the skater and the skater skates it - !!!!! No stress, no bother, and the music always turns out to be fantastic - skatable and appropriate.
Other than that, it's way overdone, but Bach's Toccata is always wicked to skate to - and it's definitely dark music; judges seem to react well to it and it's very skatable.
If she's looking for fun and that, check out Robin Cousin's Death Takes a Holiday routine. The music is fantastic, and the choreography is fantastic and may give her an idea of how to play it.

Why not Danse Macabre, which is dark, but not too dark, no lyrics, so no worries about age-appropriateness, nice and fast and a great rhythm?

Thanks - I'll give her the suggestions in the morning. Just listening to Cubana Cubana on youtube think she'll really like that. She loves St Saens so might well like the dance Macabre. Hope she can make her mind up soon! And yes - I'd kill to have her music selected for her!
