I just went on their website to look at pricing a pair of custom skating pants, and they've closed their skatewear manufacturing.
I have one of their coach jackets I bought second hand, the thing is just wonderful. I was so looking forward to buying something that fits me.

I know - we're in mourning here over it. Initially, there was a reference to the owners selling the patterns and names to another company, but, that seems to have vanished. If I had known ... I would have ordered a new pair of pants just to have them on hand.
We're trying to figure out what my DS is going to wear to skate in; Mondor, Jerrys, etc just don't last (6 weeks and they're in pieces, knees and butt worn through) and they don't fit properly anyways. I'm debating sewing tapes on the bottom of UnderArmour pants as a last resort.
It's a shame to see Blue Skys go - they made a fantastic product, the customer service was wonderful, and they'd been part of the skating community for years.

Someone at the PSA Trade Show said that the BlueSkies' buyer had a booth right next to Klingbeil's table. I'll look and see what the company name was.

It's been a bad week for me all around, My rink is closing for good Sunday. I haven't been able to reach my coach. No idea what's going to happen.

Oh, that's awful! So sorry. I'll miss Blue Skies too. I bought one of their coaching jackets at a PSA conference about 4 years ago, and it's still going strong.

Blue skies patterns and such have gone to a company called Mee.
Blue skies was wonderful, but for expensive. They also didn't follow suit like other manufacturers with designs and such, so were outpriced and the quality seemed to drop.

I did see reference to meesports as one of the companies that was under consideration, but, I didn't see the blue skies line on their website. Plus, it looks like they only do team orders (i.e. quantity) which doesn't help out individual skaters.
Frankly, I never found them overpriced: for a custom pair of pants that wore as well as they did, they were great value for the dollar for someone like my kid. The last pair we got were ordered in August of 2008, and they were as high a quality as we were always used to ... and still going strong.

but their pants were just a small portion of the line. Most skating clubs in the day had blue skies outfits. Now many teams are going to lululemon as they can have lighter outfits as well as designs that aren't sewn into the fabric.(heat??) When they refused to do that, they lost a lot of their business

I can't find the website. Our skating club buys their warmups for our regionals competitors. This is going to be a huge problem for us :frus:

might i recommend lululemon apparel as a lot of the top athletes are starting to wear a lot of their clothing. I see a lot of girls and boys using them...they seem to be a very popular thing to wear these days. however they take a hefty cut out of the bank account

LuLu is great for ladies wear, but, my son is NOT wearing yoga clothes (he has made references to the devil wearing ice skates before it happens) ... plus, I'd have to sew those darn straps on myself, and I am SO not doing that! I've also found that the Lulu stuff just doesn't wear as well, or wash as well as Blueskys, and they'd never hold up under the wear he puts in them. I have seen Podium Skatewear around though ... I may check it out, they're Canadian, and they're local. I just need to figure out if I'll have the same problem with them as with Jerry's: too tight in the butt and way too loose in the front on my DS ...
