I read a summary of ESPN Classic Canada's 1979 Worlds broadcast and the footage of the men's event has apparently been lost. It's sad to see so much footage of these classic skating events has been lost forever. I noticed so far, most of ESPN Classic Canada's vintage skating coverage has been of events already shown (in a condensed version) on Retro Ice Time a few years ago. I really hope the competitions shown on Retro Ice Time aren't the only skating events CTV has still kept intact over the years!

Actually, if you look at last season and this year, not much of what they have covered has been on Retro Ice Time - and last year it was mostly the entire original broadcast. Last night was something we've never seen before, and it looks like it was packaged with Debbi (something we didn't see last year). So, I think they have a wealth of coverage which is exciting to see.

I watched the ESPN show, it was nice to see this event as I didn't see it back in 1979!
What was really cool was seeing all the up and comers and future champions...like Torville & Dean, Underhill & Martini, Denise Biellman, .

The retro ice show was highlights of the 1982 Canadian Chamionships. We got to see a very young Brian Orser do a beauty of a 3 axel!! He looked so young!
And a very polished Underhill & Martini!!!

It is really fun to watch these and to see how far skating has come in such a short time!!

What I like to see are these skaters I never heard of become skaters I want to know more of. Case in point--Lorna Wighton and John Dowding. Wow, I loved both their free dances in 79 and 80.

Highlights of the 80 Worlds: W&D, Torvill & Dean, The Hungarians, Robin Cousins, and Scott Hamilton.

And if people thought Scott Hamilton was out of line predicting Jamie and David's victory at SLC, you'll have a heart attack when Johnny Esau predicted Robin Cousins would get 6.0's a minute into his program! Okay, he did get some, but boy...
