They are in fact using a new system. Apparently it was first unveiled at Nebelhorn. The news reports were that the event was attended by all of the upity ups of the ISU to watch the trial run. From what I understand the judges marks are scrambled so that no one will know who is handing out what marks. This means that the technical and presentation marks are not matched up. Also, there are 14 judges with the computer randomly selecting the 9 judges whose marks will count. This selection is made prior to the begining of the event. I have also heard that there are new mandatory markdowns which are being enforced. I have also been looking forsomething in wiriting to read about this new system but have not been able to find anything yet.

Thanks scott!

I have actually seen something in writing before, which there was a link on one of the boards, but for the life of me cannot remember where it was posted.

I am going to Skate Canada and from memory they are trialling it at this event but more or less wanted to find out for sure and how the new system will work exactly.

Anyone happen to know where it is on the ISU page, well if it is there. Did a quick search but i couldnt seem to find it!

Here's the link where I found my copy of the summary.

Everyone has been talking about the selection of the judges marks but I think that the new scoring system will be the bigger change by far.

Thanks for posting that.

It doesn't seem that different to me, except for the expert whose sole responsiblity is to note the element executed...I like that one. No more a judge claiming they didn't see that someone didn't do a required 2 axel!!!!

It will be very different if it actually produces a point total. That will mean ordinals will no longer decide the competition.

This sounds like the format for Pro competitions  One horrible thing about it is that anyone in the lower places will have to do PHENOMINAL to win if the person in first had a huge lead coming into the Long program.. No more "if the person in 3rd place wins the Long.." scenerios.. just pop in a tape of any World Pros and see how many competitions are won with mediocre second programs because they had such a huge lead.. Why don't they just institute the figures again and really make it interesting!

Thanks for the link tothe explanation of how the judging will work. Seems more involved for sure!! I am not sure that I understand how this expert factors into the marking, but it could prove to be interesting.
