the song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (Cyndi Lauper's version) what would you have her wear? The child is 11 and is on the small side but seems to look her age(between 10 and 11 is what most people guess her to be). Oh and this song is for a showcase routine. Her prop is a phone. She is still in the freestyle, USFSA levels. I've got a few ideas but I am curious what others would do. I want something fun but appropriate for a young girl and skating. :)

Ohhhh!! That would be fun!!

I would say, a pair of brightly colored tights (you should be able to get them from Target or American Apparel), a pair of shorter (not uber short, but maybe mid thigh) denim jean shorts that are frayed, a tank top and a sweatshirt 80's style that is bigger and off one shoulder, and with crimped hair with bright streaks in it (you should be able to get temporary stuff to put in the hair).

Having seen this skated by a few different skaters (very popular here for interpretives) - lots of short flippy-cheerleader skirts, usually ponytails with ribbons, some sleeveless tees in bright colours - generally just happy girl type clothes, but bouncy and colourful.

Thanks! What I have will likely work and has an 80's look to it too. What about a short and not too fluffy pettiskirt? Think Madonna and Cyndi Lauper from the '80's(but toned down for an 11 y/o!). BUT paired with a fitted tank, crimped hair, a pair of leggings or leg warmers and maybe some jelly bracelets?? The thing I am trying to avoid is distracting too much from her skating or annoying the judges with her costume. I don't want her to look like a pageant girl either but I want to have fun with this!

What a fun routine! If she can skate with a side ponytail (crimped, of course!) with a ribbon, I would consider that. It's "girly" and "fun" and would go well with the 80's theme. Just an idea!

I saw lots of neon-colored footless tights when I was at Burlington Coat Factory a few weeks ago...so I know they're out there!
