Hi all

I did a cross toe spin in my group lesson last night. The coach asked the head coach to look at my spin, as she was quite impressed by what I was doing as I did a more difficult version. The head coach said that under the new system in the competition, I will be given extra marks for the level of difficulty. The coach did say to me that she was very impressed by my spin as it was very difficult to do. :P

However, I am still not sure which marking system the head coach was referring to.

Any idea?

probably IJS.

Yes, that's likely the one.

Under IJS (http://www.usfigureskating.org/New_Judging.asp?id=289), you can get more credit for a higher difficulty in footwork or variations in spins, for instance. With this system, all elements have a base value that is then added to a GOE (or "grade of execution"), which results in a technical score.

Hi CoachPA

Thanks for the info. So how does the IJS work? When did it come into effect? Also, what countries does that system apply to?

It's actually the competitions that choose to adopt IJS. Over here, we used it for the last Nats. It's a bit more demanding in terms of judges and tech panel and stuff like that. I heard that over in the States, they use it for Novice and up? For NQ that is. I'm not sure. It all depends on the competition.

Keep reading up on skating stuff, new or old. =) Check out the link, it's good.
