Yes people!!! According to the June Issue of International Figure Skating (IFS.) Taylor Firth has landed the lead role in the remake of the 1978 Movie "Ice Castles". With Molly Oberstar as the supporting role (LOL,I really can't tell you who will be the blind skater. As I know what a Lead role is. But not a supporting roll. Though I think I'm right about Taylor). Being released in 2010. There is no word yet to if if will be a Theatrial or DVD. release. Nothing is said to if it will be an exact remake (same move scenes, etc. just different skaters). Or if it will be a directors own remake. Michelle Kwan will also be making a cameo as a Judge. Choreographers extraordinaire Sandra Bezic and David Wilson are working on the film.

The one telling about the movie works for me. But I can't get the whole URL. BTW. does anyone if Taylor is doing all her own skating. All the way through for this one? No matter what scene? Or would they find it risky and would they be using a stunt double on the scene were Lexie crashes into the boards to protect even a Senior?

If you move your cursor over the article links, the whole URL should show up for all of them?

Yes, pretty sure Taylor Firth did all of her own skating in the skating scenes.

All I can say, is that I should think that Winston Johnson (the origanal Lexy) would be very,very...proud of her.

The original Lexi was portrayed by Lynn-Holly Johnson. The character's name was Alexis (Lexi) Winston. Just FYI.

Thanks for correcting me TresSk8. I read my tape. But must have misread it. LOL,in that case I can only say that Lynn Holly Johnson (the origanal Lexi) would be very proud of her. Did they say anywhere if she's getting help from any of the origanal movie cast btw.?

There's a really nice trailer here:

It looks absolutely charming. I'm so excited - we should have a skating movie night!

DH was at BestBuy and they're taking advance orders for the movie. He said they told him that TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2010 is the release date.

DH bought me the original "Ice Castles" on DVD as an early Valentine's Day present. I gave him "Groundhog's Day" which we all watched on ... Groundhog's Day, lol.

Nice article about Taylor Firth's experiences in being a movie star:

I remember the first Ice Castles and wondered about that. I think she was? But I'm really not sure. Thanks :)

Yes Lynn-Holly was a professional figure skater.. She competed at the US national level in Novice and then joined the Ice capades before starring in Ice Castles.

It's really good! Its nearly the exact same as the original, just completely modernized.

I definitely enjoyed it :)

Watched it twice this past weekend.
I like it but some things needed work. Her skating program needed serious work.. like who does the same spin 4 times and 4 double axels in a program?? I mean even at the end in her last solo she would have the knowledge now of the competition requirements to know what was needed... But I loved seeing all the Lululemon clothing she and the other skaters were wearing throughout the movie.

In response to Skatergal. ARE there any pics LEFT of Lynn AS a skater? Did she do Pairs or Dance too btw.?

No mention of her ever doing ice dance or pairs... just google her name and I am sure you can find pictures.

I searched the forums and did not find a dissection of the new version.
My copy came in the mail yesterday and of course, I could hardly wait to watch it, though I did wait until DH got home.

No 3axel. No furniture crash. No real discussion of Lexi's mom. No Beulah. No Waverly! She is from Windsor, IA. The Beulah spot is occupied by her aunt, mom's sis. It is not really made clear who she is except for one line that was easy to miss. IMO, the movie seemed to rely on fans knowing the story.

I enjoyed the various homages to the original movie such as the music, split jumps and scenes that were almost identical but updated such as the party goers watching from the pond. One of the fan posters spelled "Lexie" instead of the new "Lexi". Liked that a lot.

Other good stuff: no spot lights, real skating by real skaters, no cheesy foot shots (read: little real skating in CE movies), more detail of how the blind skater relearns to skate.

I was prepared to be disappointed, but I was thrilled w this remake. I really honored the original. However, the updates made sense such as phone convos from the the original now taking place on cells and computer video (Skype), COP, International Figure Skating Mag.

Other comments?
