In August, we're going to attend a competition in Vegas. This will be our first out of state competition. We're going with some other girls from our rink. I think it will be a fun trip! Anyway... just curious if anyone else is going or skates there. :)

You may want to be careful where to bring the little one. I hear some casinos have topless shows, including ice shows, as well as great buffets. Have fun.

Are you going to Silver State in mid-August? My daughter competed there last year and we had a great time. We're tentatively planning on going again this summer. It is kind of a strange experience with a 7-year old, but it's fun to do an out-of-town comp especially with other kids from the rink.

Yup! That's the comp we're going to. I think it will definately be fun since we're going with kids from her club. :) It won't be too terribly expensive for us either since we are sharing rooms and her coaches cost with other families. My daughter will be 11. I've heard others say this is a fun comp to attend. :)

Thanks! I definately won't be attending shows such as those..lol. My daughter's best friend's brother skates on a travel team and they have played there a few times and my daughter's coach has been to this competition a few times too. So, we'll have other people with us who can guide us to kid friendly places. We'll likely be there with 4+ other kids and their mom's so I think it will be a lot of fun!

Vegas is where my dd calls home! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay. Silver State is held at Sobe Ice Arena (http://www.fiestarancholasvegas.com/entertainment/ice/) at the Fiesta Hotel & Casino. We also have the Desert Ice competition in November at the Las Vegas Ice Center (http://www.lasvegasice.com/). For anyone interested in ISI competitions, LVIC also will be host to the Red, White and Blue Open during the 4th of July weekend.
isakwings, if your needing ice time during Silver State, LVIC has daily freestyle sessions. Also, with the economy the way it is right now, the hotels here are offering rooms at rock bottom prices.
Nope, I don't work for any of these places or the hotels, just happy to see skaters come in from out of state. See you there!

Cool! We'll be there! I committed us on Tuesday night, so we will definately be going to the Silver State competition. I noticed on the website there were some great deals on hotel rooms. We've got accomodations set up already, so we're good to go there. We'll definately need ice time so our girls can get on the ice a few times before competing. We have the place we'll be staying at for a week so we will likely go a few days before the competition. That will allow us some down time before everything gets up and going. Anyway.... thanks for the information! I'm sure I will be able to spot your dd by her amazing spirals! :)
Oh! One more question... how much IS a freestyle session there? We're spoiled here. Skating isn't nearly as expensive here(UT) as it is in other states. The most I've paid for a freestyle session is 7 and that was for the second hour of dd's club ice(1st hour is included with her membership)! :) Anyway... just curious! I think I read on the comp announcement that practice ice is 15 per 1/2 hour for day of comp ice. Thanks again.

That price is special :) just for the competition. As I recall FS sessions were about the same as here in so. Calif. (around $10/45-60 min). Also, be aware, that last year at least, the day of competition sessions were mostly scheduled in early morning. We got a 4:45 AM session. That wasn't going to work for my daughter who had just turned 7 and was skating at the toe-loop level. It's supposed to be fun, right? Anyway, the schedule worked out for us such that she was able to skate at LVIC (see FigureSk8Dad's link) during the competition and at SOBE the day before.

isakswings, you're welcome for the info.
dak_rbb is spot-on regarding the session fee at both Sobe and LVIC.

Thank you! I don't think we will do ay of comp practice ice. The comp announcement/application says they won't play music on those sessions so I don't know that I will want to do those sessions unless dd's coach wants to. They said there would be "walk on" practice ice on the days leading up to the competition, so I am thinking of doing that with dd. We'll see what her coach wants and go from there. She may nix my idea! :) 4:45 am ice doesn't sound fun! Dd has had 6:15 am ice before and had to be up at 4 am that due to a 45 minute-1 hour drive to the rink...so she could do it but I don't want to! LOL
Anyway... thanks for the info!

Still sad we had to miss it, but there is always next yr! I found out dd's friend(in pre-pre) placed second for her artistic event. She was getting ready to skate her showcase event and then will skate her freeskate tomorrow.
