I've mentioned this before, (and perhaps I'm the only one that this bothers) but when people are talking about Sectionals, Nationals, etc. it would be nice if they would say what country they are talking about. (e.g. U.S. Nationals) There are posters from more than just the U.S. on this board and we all have Sectionals, Nationals etc. Thanks for your consideration.

Hello :)
I think I know what you are saying...

I'm from the UK so we don't speak of "regionals" or "sectionals".
We'll say Novice /Junior /Senior or Silver and Gold levels/tests.

Our testing system has changed so I don't know what to call them now!

When I see "sectionals", I automatically assume USA anyway.
Am I right in thinking it's only the USA that calls them that?
What are they called in Canada?

They are generally called Sectionals here in Canada. And I agree with Lynnet that it would be great if we could qualify them by country....I always find it confusing.

I thought that sectionals in the US were the level below nationals. ie. one would have to compete at regionals, then sectionals then nationals, whereas in Canada, you have sectionals before the "East-West Challenge Skate" and then nationals. I'm pretty sure in Canada, it used to be sectionals, divisionals, nationals, but then they confused me with this challenge skate idea. Am I correct in thinking that the 2 challenge skates replace the 4 divisionals we had before??

Yes, Jeb, I believe you are right. Divisionals was replaced by the two East and West Challenge Skates a year or two ago. But we still have Sectionals (BC Section for example)
