i need to know something please, how far does a standard size 8 woman's figure skate's blade heel protrude from the boot horizontally? i got stabbed by one below the kidney today, it missed my organs and is not considered serious but i need to fill out an accident claim form. thx in advance

Did you get stabbed by the heel or the toe picks? The heel, on a freestyle blade, probably extends close to 2 inches past the heel of the skate. The toepicks, maybe an inch to 1 1/2 inches depending on the level of the blade.

I was punctured by the horizontal heel end of the boot (not toe pick) as I collided with a woman doing a 1 legged backwards spin (not sure of official term). Initially I wanted to know the length of the heel bit as some indication of how far the blade was driven into my abdomen, and whether or not it had ruptured my lower intestine.

But I'v now consulted with my doctor and did some scans and he measures the wound at 3 and a half inches deep. Surprisingly, it hadn't hit anything important and all I lost was blood and fat tissue as I was leaking fat at the time (surprised I had so much to lose as I'm of a very skinny build).

In retrospect though, asking for the length of the heel bit to get an idea of how far it penetrated is a bit stupid. It is possible to drive a 2 inch blade right through a 5 inch thick cushion because it gets compressed by the force, in the same effect, the lower abdominal area is soft like a cushion. :D
