Big congrats to Evan! I think he had something to prove, and he definitely proved it. His performance was virtually flawless, and brough the house down. WTG.

And big congrats to Patrick! I hope he's as proud of that result as he should be -- it's only his 2nd trip to Worlds. Plus he's only 18. Watch this space.

I hope Joubert feels grateful for actually making the podium. Sure, he had a nice quad and a nice 3A combo at the top of the program. Big whoop. There was nothing else there, and he was waaay held up in his component scores. Again.

I felt the outcome was okay. I'm really happy for both Lysacek and Chan. They're good, decent guys who work hard like everyone else.

I agree that Joubert has to rethink his "I have QUADS" strategy. I didn't really like his program or the music. We've heard that Matrix music before with him, IIRC. Maybe he'll have new programs next season in anticipation of the Olympics.

...rethink his "I have QUADS" strategy.

...more like quad. Haha!!! I had heard he was going to put three in his free program. What a horrible program - I would feel very grateful to be third if I were him. I really am glad so far on this forum people agree that he was held up in PCS, because truly I'm not sure how they were so high. I would MUCH rather see figure SKATING than figure JUMPING. Yes, the jumps are important and you can't fall on every jump and expect to win, but I also believe on the flip side you shouldn't be able to land every jump and just crosscut in between and win. Just because men aren't doing as many quads as ten years ago, as many are complaining about on other forums, doesn't mean skating has regressed. Look at the spins - they're BEAUTIFUL!!! Men used to (for the most part) have horrible spins, and footwork that was just toe tapping/ice flying...skating has definitely improved and I am so proud of Patrick...even if his score shoulda been a bit higher!

Holly Wackomollly, Batman. I would've never predicted Evan to win this thing. Congrats to him for winning the big one after a rather dismal season. I wonder if TT is also happy for him after he changed most of her choreography and costumes, LOL.

Awww Joubert. I know a lot of people are tired of his constant quad, quad, quad, but I like him. Hopefully this will get team Joubert to rethink about how to approach a long program.

Whoa, what happened to the U.S. golden boy Abbott?

Next year is up for grab. Anyone can win. Add to that the possibility of Plushy returning. How exciting will next season be.

I wonder if TT is also happy for him after he changed most of her choreography and costumes, LOL.One of the on-the-spot FSU'ers said she gave him a big hug and congrats backstage, after she dressed down Joubert for changing his program on the fly, lol.

Whoa, what happened to the U.S. golden boy Abbott? I think his nerves got the better of him. Couple of bad jumps in that routine. To his credit, he behaved himself (for the most part) in the K&C.

Go Mroz! Thanks to him, the US has three Men's spots in Vancouver!

Brian should not have gotten the program component scores that he did! He barely had any transitions and the whole performance was all over the place!!!:twisted:

Here are some quotes from the ever "tactful" Mr. Patrick Chan:

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090327&content_id=63202&vkey=ice_news

"You're kidding," he [Chan] said, when told the judges awarded Joubert, the 2007 world champion, slightly higher program component scores.

"That's bad. That's disappointing, really disappointing. I hope they realize it real soon. I mean, c'mon, I was watching Brian and I told Michael Slipchuk [Skate Canada's high performance director] 'Are you serious? This is his program?' There's no comparison, even with the fourth or fifth [place] skater."

"Put mine, Evan [Lysacek]'s or Tomas Verner's program near Brian's, and it's pretty obvious

What is up with Chan during this week? I think he is coming off like a total Tool. He was complaining about Brian constant whining of the quad but the only person who has been whining this week ...and making personal direct attack at Joubert ... is Mr. Chan. I'm sick of him already.

Patrick Chan is very young and does need to learn to watch what he says and does with media. That aside - how does one explain Brian Joubert's PC marks in the long if they were higher than Patricks?

Congratulations to Evan & Patrick & Brandon, too!! Personally, I didn't think Joubert should have been in 1st after the short & I think that Verner was robbed of the bronze medal. I've noticed over the past that many of the men with quads have difficulty with landing triples & triple axles in particular or just use up their adrenaline before the last minute of their programs. The only men it doesn't seem to have much effect on are the Japanese men. I look forward to the return of Takahashi.

Thank you NBC for showing Evan's LP. I don't think the program itself was a great program, but it was a great performance for Evan. A woman in the first row was literally jumping out of her seat after Evan landed the opening 3-3, LOL. Evan's second 3A was super clean.

I saw those quotes, but I have a very hard time believing that they weren't in some way twisted or taken out of context. I worked practice ice all week and got to observe the personalities of all of the men. I also had a chance to chat casually with Patrick for about 10 minutes yesterday after the exhibition practice. He was relaxed and had no reason to monitor himself because there was nobody important around, but I saw absolutely none of this attitude that comes across in that interview. In fact, he was very self-deprecating and humble and I could tell he was still uncomfortable with praise.
One theory that's developing is that Skate Canada and/or the press are trying to create a "rivalry" between Chan and Joubert to bring more TV viewership to the Olympics next year, which will take place in--gee, what a coincidence--Canada.

I look forward to the return of Takahashi.
Me, too!!!!! That was the shadow that hung over this Worlds for me this week. I love Daisuke and think he's actually the best skater in the world. He is also a really sweet guy. Skating like that, he has the right to be full of himself, but he is the farthest thing from it, just like Mao.

Yes, I thought that too. CBC spent a fair bit of time talking about the "rivalry," and it did seem a bit false.

I had another thought about Evan's win when I was talking to someone else about the Canadian-men's-World-champ-before-Olympics "curse." It's the pattern of losing-national-title-then-winning-Worlds pattern. Evan lost Nationals ... came back to win Worlds. Last year Jeff Buttle lost the Canadian title ... won Worlds. I'm pretty sure that one of Yagudin's world titles was after losing nationals to Plushy, and vice versa.

Any others?

Exactly. It was great for Evan to win Worlds in front of the hometown crowd, and since nobody ever seems to win the Olympics the year after winning Worlds (I think the last one was Scott Hamilton back in the 80's?), this sets Patrick up nicely to win the Olympics next year in Canada.
