There was a thread similar to this back at the old FSW. So, I thought I would bring it up here. :)
Do you like to watch alone or with friends/family?
Do you snack?
Watch in the dark or with lots of light?
Me, I like to watch lounging in comfy clothes on my living room couch eating ice cream. I don't mind watching with others unless its worlds or nats. I don't know anyone who follows skating like I do, so people who watch with me don't have a clue. My brother is quite amusing to watch Ice Wars with at Thanksgiving. He does his own commentating making up new names for spins and other moves. Its pretty funny. But, I wouldn't be amused at a serious comp.

I like watching live comps in my room all alone, not being disturbed by anybody because if they fall I may get a little upset and don't want people to see me that way.
i USED to talk on the phone with a friend that would watch the same show, but i've decided to not do that this time around b/c i seem to jinx Plush everytime I do it. Examples: during the '01-'02 season, me and a friend who adore him were watching him on tv at CoR and decided to watch it together by phone and hear e/o's opinions etc. Plush fell about a good two times. We were like "whoa, maybe we shoudln't talk on the phone while watching him skate b/c he senses our adoration for him and that's just too overwhelming." Of course we were kidding, but we weren't taking any chances. Anyways, THEN come the GPF, we were on the phone to watch the other men skate and as soon as plush came on, we decided to hang up and then call e/o back when he was done. He had a two turn rev on that quad. Then we decided that both of us watching him at the same time still was bad b/c the connection was still bit there a little. Then comes the Olys. I decided to be the brave soul and watch the sp. Dummy me, can't learn a lesson, so i decided to call my best friend. She likes skating, but not as much as me. Anyways, when plush skated, dummy me was on the phone with her and we all know what happened there. then i realized that it was ME and the phone, and it didn't matter WHO I was talking to. The next time i watched him, he didn't fall, and I wasn't on the phone either or in contact with any of my friends. I know that I'm being superstitious, but it never fails. I'm just going to STAY away from the phones when my fav skaters are on. Me alone seems to be the key.

It would be nice to watch some skating on TV for a change! They show very little in this country.

They hardly show ANY here, we have yet to see worlds! But on the rare occaision I do get to watch skating, either live or on video or on TV, I like COMPLETE SILENCE. I don't put the comentary on the first time either, sometimes I watch again with the comentary though. I hate watching skating with non-skaters or people who don't have a clue!
PS: When I was at the GWG, I was sitting next to this lady who was constantly talking, and constantly clapping and nodding knowingly saying "great triple lutz" etc when the jump was actually a double axel and things like that. First time it was funny, but the rest of the time, darn annoying!

Generally I prefer alone, not counting my cat of course. Actually, she hates it when I watch skating because I do this sort of twitch thing before each jump, and get very excited at points ... and my lap doesn't stay stable enough for her. ;)
Early in the season (Grand Prix events in particular) I tape the broadcast and watch later so can FF through unranked skaters if, after the first 20 seconds or so, they don't "grab" me. The late-season events I tape and watch live if at all possible.
Anyone else decline social invitations to stay home to watch skating? I haven't done it that much, but once or twice.

I prefer being alone. If someone is with me when I am taping an event they are apt to talk/distract me & I wind up taping the commercials (which I hate having on my tapes) by either forgetting to put the VCR on pause or forgetting to put the VCR back on record when the skating returns. I love to pop in a skating tape late at night & watch in the dark.

My husband and I watch it together. He started watching about three or four years ago, and is really into it. He recognizes more jumps than I do now.

I like to watch skating ALONE, thank you!, so my husband isn't constantly channel surfing during the commercials. Drives me nuts.
and, I like to know the outcome of competitions before I watch them.
No eating during the programs. But I do read during the commercials.

I like to watch competitions alone as well. While my friends all say that they are fs fans, they can never be quiet while a skater is on the ice.
The only competitions where I want to know the results before I watch is when either Emanuel or Evgeny is skating. Otherwise I end up watching from behind the chesterfield or not watching at all and hiding in the bathroom (with the fan on so I can't hear anything). God, how ridiculous that sounds!
At Worlds in Vancouver I thought I was going to have a heart attack when Emanuel stepped onto the ice - too nervewracking.

Yep, Emanfan, I was that way too (behind the couch almost) during the Ladies Olys. We were traveling at the time, and my husband made SURE to get me to a hotel with a WORKING tv and guanarteed reception.
But, unlike other Olys and comps, I didn't know the results beforehand. Yikes! It was totally nervewracking. I literally pulled my hair when Michelle fell on the 3 flip. I was so sad for her, but what a terrific finish for Sarah. And, oh my gosh, Sasha came so close to nailing that 3/3.
We were in Disneyland at that time. And I completely forgot to watch the Oly Exhibitions...

Since hubby isn't into skating... I would say that I prefer to watch it in bed with snacks and drinks. But the last few times I've watched skating has been at my gym. (Some of the cardio equipment also has a mini TV which you plug in this special earphone to... I got to watch Mikey Weiss show off his Freedom blades while I was on the eliptical trainer... and 4 of the 6 ladies at Campbell!!! (Actually, I watched all six ladies, including MK, but I wasn't ON the eliptical trainer on the last 2...) :P
Oh, well! It gives me motivation to work on losing this extra weight I've gained recently anyway... :P
Cheers,

We don't get much skating on TV here :( except if you have Eurosport, and only at Europeans, Worlds and Olympics.
I will watch skating any way!
Preferrably with no distractions (kids) or interruptions (kids and husband!).
I never answer the phone if I'm watching skating - even if it's on video and I've seen it before!
I watch alone becuase:
1. none of my friends like skating.
2. best friend is a music major and very very critical of music selection. She will like a particular program only if the music is edited well and a masters piece. The technical elements and presentation don't matter to her.
But I talk about it at work alot because there are alot of skating fans there or my buddies(mostly men) always go out of their way to watch my favourite skaters and tell me about it the next day. I do the same thing to them for hockey, soccer and cricket.

I love watching skating on television or live best with my daughter. She knows her skating, and I guess we often have the same references, respond similarly, so that is fun.
Since I always record skating on television, I don't much like to watch skating with anyone else until later, then its fun to see their POV. I enjoy showing skating tapes to people who are interested.

Just wondering, Loveskating, how old is your daughter?
