Very interesting results! I am very pleased that Michelle KWan has won. But I am also very surprised at the results! I actually thought that Sasha and Sarah would have placed above AP! But I also think that AP may have gotten a bit lucky tonight. She's an exceptional skater, but not up to par with sasha and Sarah quite yet.

I posted notes from Dustin here...

Note - I spoke to him on the phone, and he didn't take detailed notes, but those are his initial thoughts.

Adrian's link points out what I just posted on MKF. Sasha won the presentation mark. If you've got the technical goods and are winning the presentation mark........

I don't know if she got "lucky" tonight but IMO AP is definitely on par with BOTH Sasha and Sarah. Her jumps are equal if not better than theirs, although inconsistant. Inconsistancy seems to be her weakness. But her spins, edging, speed, spins and spirals are top notch. She also appears to have a TRUE lutz.
With a fall on the 3lutz and sit down on her final spin, its not surprising Sasha did not place 2nd, as compared to Kwan and Hughes.
Congratulations to AP on a great showing so early in the season. And I look forward to seeing her skate in SA.
Also looking forward to seeing MK and SC's new programs.

Ann has an exceptional Lutz!!! I remember seeing it when she won Junior Nationals! I was like, "OMIGOD!!! An OUTSIDE EDGE!" You know, before AP the only other outsiders were Stacey Pensgen and Melissa Parker. Ap is heaps and leaps ahead of those 2 right now.
So happy for AP

Stacey isn't doing so good right now. She's not going to make Eastern Sectionals this year... we just saw her at North Atlantic Regionals.

Well, good luck to Stacey next season, then :) She sounds like a good skater and a hard working lady, like many of the skaters who may not always make it to the tippy top of competition.
I can't wait to see the ladies in this competition tomorrow! It sounds like even with mistakes, all of their programs were interesting and bode (boded?) well :)

Looking at the marks (on a SkateFans post) it looks like the judges were all over the place having a hard time deciding the ladies. The ordinals look like a JGP event! LOL!
Disappointed for Sasha and Sarah! :( But happy for Ann Patrice! :)

A friend of mine called me from the competition.
She felt that the results should have been:
MK
AP...very close to winning
Sasha
VV
Sarah
Jennifer
She is not sure but MK planned 6 triples and landed 5. Loved Michelle's new program to Spanish kind of music. Felt she looked polished.
AP was wonderful she said. I am not a technical expert, but according to a few people who are, AP's lutz is the best among the top American ladies.
She said Sasha did well. Better than she did at SS and S a few weeks ago..was "on" her music...Did change of edge spiral, but did fall on a jump and fell on sit-spin
She felt that VV was totally prepared and could be a contender.
She felt that Sarah looked a bit sloppy and did not do a combo.
She didn't say anything about JR.
AP and MK got standing "O's."
Re: the men, she felt that Michael Weiss had the most polished performance of the night. Good for him...I feel for Tim, I hope he recovers from his injury.

Are there any pictures out yet? I can't wait for this afternoon to see this new program. I listened to the link to music. Wow I wonder if there are any fluff pieces about new coach?
Great news for Michelle Kwan! She has only been practicing, and with a new coach, for about 2 weeks. I didn't expect much, but again she proves many wrong!
Must say I am surprised that AP beat both Sarah and Sasha. I thought they both had lots of preparation and would do much better.
AP..wow! Great job!
Looks like noboody was held up at this competition and the ladies did a fine job. What an exciting year it's going to be.

What did you think of Sasha's new footwork? Very Yagudin-esque, but it really got me to sit up in my seat and pay attention!
I have never been much of a Sasha fan, but she is winning me over. I think she is going to own this sport in the not so distant future...

I think it was more than luck that put AP in second place - - although I will conceed that she may have had more time to practice & put everything together.
AP has a Michelle kwan like line to her skating that the others do not have. I agree with Dick Button's assessment when he commented on her line & position.
As far as the other skaters, I saw no artistic improvement with Sarah over last season. Sasha had moments of greatness, she just needs to be more consistent.
