Hi. I don't have much ice skating experience and havn't skated for about two years not counting today.
I bought a pair of CCM Vector 04's yesterday and tried them out on the rink today. the blade kept moving around when I was gliding and I asked the safety guys why it does it and they told me to tie the skates tighter, so I did and the skates felt better but the blade kept shaking and if I wasn't pushing myself off the ice and just gliding then it the skate would be zig zagging.

Do you guys think this is because I am not used to them or am I doing something wrong or what?
Thank you!

Ummm, if I'm not mistaken, a CCM Vector 04 is a hockey blade. If you're trying to figure skate on it, you may not be doing yourself any favors: talk to your skate shop/technician about getting you fitted for a figure skating blade (typically a Wilson or an MK).

BTW, you do know that this is a figure skating website, right  ?

Ahh no, I didn't sorry if this bothers anyone. I didn't buy these skates for figure skating, I just want to learn to skate lol.
Anyone have an answer to my problem in the OP?

There are plenty of skaters on here involved with a Learn-to-Skate program as well as recreational skaters who skate just for fun. So, welcome aboard anyway!

As for your blade issue, were your blades sharpened before you used them? If the zig-zagging you're talking about feels as though you're trying to skate on a butterknife, your blades are probably dull. Dull blades can make you feel as though you're slipping rather than gliding, so I'd start by having your local skate technician check 'em out and see if he can sharpen them up a bit for you.

I'd also check to see if you have a little rust on your blades. (Rust can form if you don't dry your blades properly.) Again, if this is the case, a good sharpening should be able to remove any rust.

Thank you for the reply CoachPA.

Yes I had them sharpened next day I bought them when I went skating. They feel like they are drifting around or on a zigzag track instead of a straight line. I'm going to be going to Moscow in a few days and my friend there told me he would teach me to skate, so I will figure out what the problem is soon :)

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi,welcome aboard.... Your doing very well for your first pot btw. I'm a Learn to Skate Skater myself. But I'm still not really sure on how to answer you. I best I can say is if you don't have a Figure Skate blade. You might want to try Figure skates. Are your blades tightened by a Pro. Shop btw. The one person here that could problily answer you the best (No offense on anyone here) would be skatepairsmom. Maybe someone could direct her to this thread. Again Welcome aboard friend.
