I would want a Partner with a good sense of humor. That wouldn't talk down to me. That I could make a relationship with.that had enough in common with me,and would understand and except me for who I am.

I'm an ice-dancer, and have actually split with my partner so my coaches and I have been thinking about this quite a bit.
Obviously, physical characteristics are huge. For me, I'm 5'9" tall, so I have to have a taller guy. My last partner was barely an inch taller and the line was horrible. The build of the guy is also important, which again goes to lines and lifts.
I also generally prefer a guy to be at my level or above. I've had to bring a partner up to speed (2 levels different) and we never were able to be on quite the same level because as we both improved, the gap never completely went away.
Mentally, I look for someone that is willing to work hard and be in the partnership for more than a couple of years. Additionally, I look for someone that is willing to both learn and teach, take criticism and give it constructively, and has compatible style as far as how they skate and use edges, etc. Obviously it must be someone I can get along with as far as personality and that our coaches can work with well. Because practices can be long, someone who can handle being on the ice for awhile and is able to pick up choreography quickly.
Wow - apparently I'm really picky.
