I thought this was an interesting article:

They seem to be middle level skaters, but what really caught my eye- he did his first 4 dances in hockey skates! Wonder what the judges thought about that.

I couldn't open the article... BUT we had a guy like this in our area. One of the adult skaters got him interested in ice-dance and he got totally into it - took about the first 6 dances in hockey skates (he had AMAZING edges), then finally got some figure skates with blades that had NO picks at all and got through another couple of dances. Finally ended up in a Synchro blade and competed Novice Dance at Sectionals.

I think he ended up quitting after a couple of years of competition, but it was really cool to see what this talented 22-year-old could do with his hockey background and no fear of reprisal from his hockey-buddies!

Hmmm.. the link isn't working for me anymore either- bummer, cause it was a cute article. This kid (high school?) had said he was thinking about stopping hockey to do dance more seriously because he "has no future in hockey".

Jim Zorn, the coach of the Redskins (a US football team) did the Canasta Tango in Speed Skates (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2008/07/new_from_zorn_ice_dancing_and.html)--his coach? Michelle Ford, 3 times US bronze medalist in ice dance.

So after reading this artlcle, I'm so.o.o.o never going to complain about my skates again.
