BERN, Switzerland—Two-time world champion Stephane Lambiel retired from competitive figure skating Thursday, citing a lingering hip injury. The 2006 Olympic silver medalist will now perform only in exhibitions.

"This decision was taken after a long time of reflection," the 23-year-old Lambiel said at a news conference in his native Switzerland. "I have made a good choice and made my health my priority. Now I'm going to turn the page."

This is really too bad - I have really enjoyed watching this skater develop and have been looking forward to the men's lineup at the 2010 Olympics... but with Buttle out and now Stephane... the whole thing looks a lot less interesting...

I'd say the 2009 Men's ISU World Champion is either going to be Johnny Weir, Evan Lysacek, Brian Joubert if he makes it out of France or Patrick Chan.

I've seen clip of Brian's new long program. The hideous feathered outfit alone will cost him points. (Ok, he won't get points deducted for it but I rally wish he would so that he'll get the message to ditch his awful costume designer. He really need Kurt back in his corner.)
