Say,I heard that Champions on Ice was cancelled this year, and that thee not having it. But that Stars on Ice WILL be held. Does anyone have any info. on why it was cancelled? Are the just taking a break,or what's happening? As the whole many years they've had it. I've never known it cancelled once. Also does anyone have any info. on the Show coming up in Simsbury on Dec.,21rst? Thanks.

Champions on Ice is working with Stars on Ice this year to create one BIG tour that will hopefully attract a lot of people. In the past, the two touring shows have been competing for the same spectators, so the attendance has been dropping. I saw Stars on Ice two years ago and there were a lot of empty seats.

No news on who is going to appear at which arenas, sorry. They do show Sasha Cohen on their website. The theme this year is "Live and In Color!" I'm guessing that it might have a television theme, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps some of our spies in Lake Placid, NY can get a peek during the practices and first performance (End of Nov 2008) and give us a heads up?

I could be wrong, but I believe the theme *last* touring year (Nov.07-May08 including Canada) was "Live and In Color."

Oh, their website said "2008" on that theme and the prior years said 2007-2008, so I figured it was this year. Sorry.

Anyone know if they are staying merged?

They haven't officially "merged." The article says they are "working together" for this year.

I think the hope is that the upcoming Olympics in 2010 will generate enough interest to support two shows.

Maybe..but in a way...they both are the same thing. The only difference is the show name.

I hope Stars On Ice goes to more cities here in Canada like in Windsor, ON at our new arena complex called Windsor Family Credit Union Centre (WFCU Centre).

Actually if they merged...the name Champions Stars on Ice has a nice ring to it.

I thought I read somewhere that SOI bought out COI, I was expecting to see a change in some of the SOI cast, but almost everyone who toured last year is returning and the tour is still going to 40 U.S. cities, although there are just a few changes of cities this year. The 09' tour is going to be called "On The Edge" according to a post on the Fan Club website. I'll be going up to the Lake Placid show barring a major snow storm that week-end!!! Jeff Buttle is guest staring that night and I read he will be doing about 20 of the U.S. shows and of course all of the Canadian shows.

Thanks for the info - I adore Jeffrey Buttle and would love to see him skate in person.

There were rumors about a buyout or merger, but they ended up choosing to keep the two companies separate. I think COI is hoping that the combined tour will get them through the economic downturn.
