If our Canadian pair teams keep up with their results at the 2009 Worlds like they did at the 2008 Worlds or better, we won't have to pick 2 teams. We will get to send 3 pair teams.
Here's what I'm hoping for the 2010 Canadian Pair podium before the 2010 Olympics;
Jessica Dube & Bryce Davison
Anabelle Langlois & Cody Hay
Meagan Duhamel & Craig Buntin

Figure Skating has not been in the Summer Olympics or during the same years as the Summer Olympics since 1992. In 1994 the Winter Olympics was the first year that the Winter and Summer Olympics would alternate every 2 years. There's 4 years in betweeen each Summer Olympics. And there's also 4 years between each Winter Olympics. So since 1994 it's been like this;
1994 Winter Olympics
1996 Summer Olympics
1998 Winter
2000 Summer
2002 Winter
2004 Summer
2006 Winter
2008 Summer
2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC, Canada
2012 Summer
2014 Winter
And so on.

Ummmm,I've always known Figure Skating NOW to be part of the Winter Olympics. Instead of part of the Summer like it used to be. But I always thought they were held the same year. Just in the correct season. The Winter would be in Winter eg. Also that would make the Winte Olympics 2009. Not 2010.Is there a reason why they do it different years? BTW. does anyone know in that case if the schedule for the Skating season would be effected this year BECAUSE of the Olympics? My staff thinks the reason thee's no info. for competitions up yet for Skating is because all the athletes are up in China..and that if the Olympics weren't this year. There'ld be more info. on competitions, and more scheduled. Dates,ticket prices,when and were,etc..as it IS almost Sept. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or anymore info. they can give me? Thanks.

The winter olympics always fall in February, inbetween Europeans/4 Continents and the worlds on march. They changed the year so that people weren't over faced with both olympic events in one year and to get one event over with and then have 2 years to organise the next. I do think it makes sense as one event can steal the thunder of the other and make them a bit less special as the olympics are often described.
If there are any other reasons then I can't think of them at the moment!

I don't believe that the summer Olympics plays a role in the scheduling of figure skating competitions.
According to the USFS website, the 2008-2009 skating schedule will be released sometime in "late summer". What its definintion of late summer is could mean the end of August or as late as sometime in September.
I can tell you that the 2009 ISU World Team Trophy competition will be held in Tokoyo Japan in April.
March will have the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships (in Los Angeles), as well as the 2009 Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Feburary will see the 2009 French Cup in Rouen, France and the 2009 Four Continents Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
January's competitions include the 2009 Prague Cup in Prague, Czech Republic and the 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, Ohio.
As for 2008, you can check out the 2008 Grand Prix Final in Goyang City, Republic of Korea in December, as well as the Junior Grand Prix Final in the same city.
November hosts the 2008 NHK Trophy in Tokyo, Japan and the 2008 Cup of China in Beijing, China.

I do believe you are right. The Olympics is pretty much a constant as to the approx time of year that they occur. So the individual winter sport organisations have plenty of prior notice to organise their own shedules and the olympics are awarded some 7 or so years before hand so they know when and where they will be years ahead

Just thought I'd share the link provided by icenetwork for more televised skating for the 2008-2009 season: http://web.icenetwork.com/events/schedule.jsp?mode=tv.
Although for now they seem to have mainly exhibitions listed.

I don't know if it available in the US but Eurosport www.eurosport.com covers the europeans, worlds and a number of galas at Christmas time. They do extensive coverage up to perhaps 40 hours with compulsory dances and all the stuff you don't normally get from a mainstream terrestrial channel

Belbin and Agosto are my all time favorites!
I'd really like to see Evora and Ladwig go to the 2010 Olympics. Also, it's a real longshot, but I'd also like to see Barrett and Denney work really hard and earn a spot, even though they are just starting out again as a team. Jeremy Barrett rocks!!!!!
