You might want to post this over in the On Ice section, you'll probably get more responses that way.

But to answer your question, I broke my ankle skating, had 3 screws put in (they were removed about 6 months later). I'm skating again but not back to where I was at the time I broke it. (I have been back on the ice about a year, but only skating once a week for a variety of reasons.) But you're a higher level skater, so it will not take you as long. Talk to your doc about getting the screws removed; the surgery to do that will set you back, but it will help in the long run.

Hi there--I broke my ankle last April (surgery May 1 to put a plate & five screws in). I was off the ice until late August. I was on the ice for maybe 8 weeks? and I just COULDN'T stand the pain any more (FO edges--on the plate side--were excruciating). It got to where any exercise, even walking, was killing me, so I had the hardware removed in November. Back in about 4 weeks and I've improved steadily since then. I'm a low-level skater, though (adult pre-bronze) so there's not much of a comparison. Don't know how old you are either; I was 38 at the time of the break.

I would strongly recommend, as many posters here did to me, some PT once you're able to bear weight on the healing ankle. It made a HUGE difference for me in terms of regaining strength and flexibility.

It would also be a good idea to talk to your surgeon as well, especially if he/she works with athletes a lot; your surgeon will have more insight for your situation specifically given your age & fitness level.
