Developers are planning to put an ice rink on the roof of an existing building in Long Island City. It's to be called "City Ice Pavilion." (Why does that name sound so familiar?)

It seems a little strange to me, but it's their money.

Maybe it's the Pavilion part of the name, KWIM?

Maybe, but isn't the concessionaire for the World's Fair a "City Ice...ah!...City Ice Sports, right? That explains why it seemed familiar.

I also read an article that said the Queens Museum was waiting for the World's Fair ice rink to move to the new Flushing Meadows-Corona Park ice and aquatics center. I thought that rink was supposed to open in Sept 2008? Guess they're behind schedule or it was an old article. (Which of course, I can't find again.

I wonder how it will be like, I skated in Shenzhen where one side of the rink had a glass panel that you could see the outside from , it was quite nice, as opposed to your typical advertisement filled/blank walls.

Doesn't look like there are any windows - it's covered by a bubble top.

Good! Glad another indoor rink's opening within the 5 boroughs. Chelsea SkyRink's been the only game in town for years and their sessions are overpriced; not to mention if you're doing a competition/hockey tournament there and you're driving from out of town, you have to pay to park. IMO they should offer a discount.

The address seems to be 47-32 32nd Pl. Long Island City, NY 11101

(Already getting frustrated trying to figure out how to get their via MTA... :frus: I'm trying not to bring my car in if possible.)

Okay, so Chelsea Piers is currently and technically NOT the only rooftop skating rink in the NY area. But it used to be when it was in the other building. Ooooohkay, CHECK!!!

ISk8NYC: It may be "their money", but in the name of profits, guess who will be passed on the expense of this project? *sigh*

In any case, I look forward to skating at this rink when it's opened (and when I'm coming by to visit.) 8-)

Subway #7 is just a block or two away from there, and E, V and G are close to a mile away (and I'm currently doing summer internship at Citigroup at One Court Square, at the E/V/G stop - I guess I better take that <1 mile walk before the internship is over next Friday).

What other rooftop rink's in the NY area?? I know it was the only rink of that nature when it was at 33rd St. between 9th/10th-I skated there for years. Maybe I should have been more specific and said: "Skyrink's been the ONLY year-round indoor rink in Manhattan for years" and was it necessary for you to scream on "CHECK!!??"
