I don't know what you heard, but it's unlikely it's about Skate America. That's a competition, not a show, so it's only going to happen once, and the dates and location for this year have already been announced. It won't be happening anywhere else this year, and certainly not earlier than the published dates.
Anyway, I tried to check out the schedule at the New Haven Coliseum to find out what event you might have heard about, and discovered that the building was demolished in 2007. You'd better check your facts again - it sounds like some details are confused.

Ummmmmm, thank you so much for the info. and clearing that up Clarice. That really helps me out a lot. That actually is news to me. About the Coliseum. LOL,I didn't even know it had been demolished. As the only building I heard of getting demlished was the Civic Center (now the XL. Center) The peole that run skate America must have gotten miscommunication or something. BTW. does anyone happen to know if a replacement for the Coliseum in the works? If there hasn't been yet? Thanks.

It doesn't look like a new replacement arena will be built, according to the following quote from this January 2007 article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-01-20-newhaven-arena_x.htm
Crowds filled a nearby 10-level parking garage to watch the demolition [of the Veterans Memorial Coliseum], which makes way for a downtown redevelopment project.
...
The $230 million development project will include stores and up to 280 housing units. A community college and a theater will move to the site and an adjacent property.

The Hartford Civic Center wasn't demolished, just renamed. It's the same building. And no, I don't believe there are plans for a new arena in New Haven. The old one was very rundown, but more importantly it wasn't making money.
As far as Skate America, there's two things about what you heard that make no sense. One, obviously, is that New Haven no longer has an arena. (There's probably one on the Yale campus, since they have a hockey team, but I don't know if it has the seating USFS would want for a Grand Prix event). Two is that you said you heard something about August, but Skate America is always in October.
So, in summary, there may be something going on at a rink in the New Haven area in August, but it's definitely not Skate America. Do you have a link to whatever it was you read?

There are no August competitions listed on the USFS or NEICC calendars for anywhere in Connecticut.
Skate America is always in October.
